The Art of Shaving Sandalwood is, and always will be, my favorite scent.  I first became aware of this soap when AOS discontinued the formula in tallow and back then I was convinced that tallow created a better lather. For the most part that belief was born out by considerable experience with tallow vs veg soaps.  I picked up a puck of this soon-to-be unobtainable soap and when it arrived I liked it for the first whiff…..and got a few more.  The lather I made in my hard water was slick and cushioning but that scent….!  I've not been interested in the new veg formula of AOS Sandalwood but recently Nero was selling a puck at a fire sale price and BAM, I now own the veg.  Lather is different but still top tier.  For a hard puck it loaded quickly.  Low structure lather that seemed pretty thirsty.  I'll play around to see how much water it'll take.  At any rate, over the years veg soap has came to equal tallow n performance in many soaps and this one would fit into that category.  Is it the equal of the tallow?  Nope, I don't think so, but the differences might be due to my inexperience with the puck.  Can state for sure though that this soap is worthy.  And is there anything more classic than a wooden bowl and a triple milled puck?  FWIW, the tallow puck is stamped “art of shaving” on top and the veg sports the same text but surrounded by the oval stamp.  You can see the logo in my picture.  Now, the scent!  The new Sandalwood is VERY similar to the old but carries a note of anise that I don't pick up in the old.  This scent seems a dead ringer for Fines Santal Absolut of which I am a fan.  I really like it but I like the old scent better by a smidgen.

My soaps are not well organized.  They are not in any particular order but I do keep them stacked by brand.  today's soap was chosen by chance...1st row of Mikes, 3rd tub from the top.

First Canadian Sandalwood soap

Whooo weee. This stuff stinks. Put man oh man it is a slick emulsion. Easy to lather. Want to use it regularly - but has a plastic fishing lure smell. Bummer. May try another puck.

Any of you guys familiar with this house? [Image: 7fcbd6038193ec9edc5201a7a26e4256.jpg]
