I own exactly two Chiseled Face offerings.  Summer Storm, which hits the smell of petrichor better than others I've sniffed and now Pine Tar which smells, well, like pine tar.  I first went on the hunt for a tar soap after a pass-around box that went through my home and contained a Razor Master soap named Toivo (pine tar) that I enjoyed very much.m it reminded me of,the stove pipe of my wall tents in the fall.  Taking them down and stacking them in the stoves at the end of a trip makes me long to be camped in the head of Mill Canyon, way up high amongst the slide rock.  I hunted, and could not find a Toivo soap that was worth the money but I did find CF Pine Tar because he (Groomatorium) used to be the source here in the USA.  I hemmed and hawed but when Nero was letting this puck go on his annual freakishly huge spring cleaning, I picked it up.  I sure don't get the smoky stove pipe scent I get with Toivo but I do get pine tar!  This pine tar takes me on a bit of a different trip though.  This reminds me of baseball pine tar.  Well gents, baseball is the best sport in the world (but you already knew that) so although I'm still hunting Toivo, CF Pine Tar is going to suffice just fine.  Back in the day I was known as a pretty fair ball player, and although I never had any George Brett bat tar incidents, I did use tar on my bats.  Now it's all aluminum which has made “the crack of the bat” a distant memory except in the pro league.  Hey, I get it, but I digress.  CF states that if you have ever been on a Tall Ship and smelled the rigging ropes in the hot sun, or if you have been to La Brea tar pits, or if you have smelled hot road asphalt, that's the smell.  Well, no it's not.  This tar is way too clean for those scents.  This fits much better the smaller amount used in baseball.  Reviewers have stated that it smells like Pinesol or a pine air freshener, well no it certainly does not.  Spend some more time with your nose in the cleaning bucket boys.  And so said it “smells gross”.  Well what in the world did you think you would smell with a name like Pine Tar?  Look, it is exactly what it says it is and I am glad to have it. (But if you have some Toivo kicking around and don't care for the scent, I'm your Huckleberry!)
