Stella Alpina (Saponificio Varesino) citrus, eucalyptus, herbs, amber musk
Stella Alpina (beta 4.2) seems softer than some of Saponificio Varesino’s other shaving soaps. When it first arrived, I mashed it into a new tub with no effort at all, and now, after only nine shaves, the puck sports a pretty nice divot. Earlier betas of this soap maker’s products were as hard as a triple milled bar. They were good candidates for deep blooming. But Stella Alpina loads easily after having been veiled with only a half teaspoon of warm water. The only other peculiarity I’ve noticed is the soap’s preference for a badger brush. I made some mediocre, thin lathers when I used a synthetic, but when I broke out the badger, I found myself knee-deep in cream.

Whenever I go to shave, I assume there’s someone else on the planet shaving, so I say “I’m gonna go shave, too.”
