First use of this new addition to the tallow range and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Like the Fougère V2 used yesterday, the scent is weaker from the tin than the veggie equivalent, although this is stronger than the Fougère. Once lathered, the scent opens up and intensifies. The scent is sweeter than previous versions I've tried and the combination of this plus the weaker scent actually makes for an even more enjoyable scent. This is easily a scent I could use on a daily basis, whereas I would only want to use the stronger veggie scent from time to time.
Manuel's usual supplier ran out of stock recently and a new supplier had to be sought. This is what's accounting for the less strong scents in this soap and the latest batch of Fougère, I understand. That said, Manuel informed me last night that his usual supplier has restocked and he'll be returning to him with immediate effect.

Rose (Martin de Candre) faint, dry rose
Soap artisans have my utmost admiration, especially when it comes to making their products smell good. What could be more frustrating than trying to scent a product whose first purpose, after all, was to remove smells, the good along with the bad?
The smell of fresh roses is notoriously difficult to recreate, especially in an environment as hostile to scent molecules as a pot of soap. Martin de Candre offer us a dry, slightly bitter rose that reminds me of well-aged potpourri. The rose is faint, nearly lost in the rosemary and lavender that make up the base aroma of most of Martin de Candre’s soaps. I hoped the rose would open up when lathered, but instead, when it gets wet, it fades even deeper into the bushes. All in all, the soap’s scent is not disagreeable. In fact, the addition of a little rose would do wonders for the bouquet of the original soap. But on its own, the rose is just not strong enough to evoke the convincing image of a fresh, plump flower.
