Dolomiti v. (Saponificio Varesino) citrus, lavender, cedar

The heat index inside the house yesterday reached 104°F. With weather like that, you don’t need a razor to rub your skin raw. It just happens naturally. When it's swampy hot, I cry out for the brush with the biggest swab and the soap with the deepest cushion. Today Dolomiti answered the call. I dipped in a WCS 26mm badger and loaded with abandon. The pasty thick lather came together without any troubles. More water would have made a slicker emulsion, but I was looking for maximum protection. I got it. Everything you’ve read about solving your lather problems by simply loading more soap is true. Today’s overloaded lather was magnificent. I only wish Dolomiti smelled as fabulous as it shaves. It's a mild, dirty lavender laid over a nondescript cologne. Nothing offensive, but nothing particularly interesting either.

Today's shave was with Long Rifle Hunting Lodge...

This is sold in 3 ounce tubs (poured) or a tin containing a very soft puck... I have the tin version.

This soft tallow (locally sourced?) soap is described as a mix of Bay, Leather, and Tobacco. I can pick out the first two, but not tobacco. I do wonder if the tobacco is actually tobacco flower? Nonetheless, it is a great combination. Its a light scent, but it does last a bit on the face, IMO, post shave. It's also an exhilarating scent. The mix of bay with leather coupled with being on the lighter side) gives me the feeling of a crisp clean breeze. Id almost expect some level of mint menthol... but I don't believe any actually exist in this soap.

As is typical with a lot of soft soaps, it lathers pretty easily. The soap goes on well, and the lather seems to keep its form quite well on the face. It is fairly slick and competent. Upon rinsing I feel the post shave is good, with a fairly moist and soft skin feel.[Image: 50cb00ceac9561e3426502add1b3c842.jpg]

Protective as can be.  Slicker than a Riverboat gambler. And a plump post shave.  Sure, there are others that beat Stirling in different metrics but at a price tag of $2.30 per oz?  Shoot Chip, what's not to love?  Today finds Ben Franklin on the brush.  Unpretentious scent that hearkens to a man who works with his hands.  [Image: HPK7jB1.jpg]
LR660- couldn't agree with you more. Stirling is the slickest suds I have. The scents are diverse, and it is very easy to build a luxurious lather. Top tier fo'sho'

Georges de Laire was a French fragrancier whose family-run company developed a series of synthetic bases, or mini-perfumes, at the end of the 19th century. Beginning with one of de Laire’s bases, a perfumer could build a complex and sophisticated fragrance without having to master the quirks of modern scents manufactured in the laboratory. Mousse de Saxe, one of de Laire’s legendary bases, was composed of synthetic notes representing geranium, anise, leather, iodine, and vanilla. It smelled like mossy leather with green notes and a dash of musk. You may have smelled it in Knize Ten, L’Heure Bleu, Shalimar, or Vol de Nuit. If you’re not familiar with these perfumes, just imagine the smell a well worn saddle left in the forest for a season.

BM’s interpretation of de Laire’s Mousse de Saxe combines the anisic smell of licorice and the warm smoky side of leather with a pinch of creamy vanilla, all underpinned by a gorgeous mossy fougère. It’s beautiful. I suppose that’s why Will named his soap “Beau” de Laire.
Thanks to you, Bouki, I now know more about one of my absolute top soaps than I ever have in the few years I’ve been using it. Smile

Curiously, I’ve never been a fan of anise, and am not really a fougère fanatic, either, yet somehow I find Beaudelaire intoxicatingly good. I think Will is a magician of sorts…
