Laureato v. (Abbate y La Mantia) lemon, saffron, light wood & florals, bay laurel

I'm still experimenting with this drenched-brush approach to lather making. It's rewarding, but it's sloppy. My normal lather bowl can't contain all the soapy suds, while face lathering just sends wispy clouds of foam flying all over the bathroom. To remedy this situation, this morning I pulled out a set of old stainless mixing bowls tucked away in the deepest recesses of the kitchen. The smallest fits my hand perfect and holds nearly a quart of suds.

This is a new soap and new maker for me.  Th maker is Murphy and McNeil and the soap is Ouroboros.  Soap consistency is a cream.  Not as loose as TOBS but close.  I've got a long way to go before having this one dialed in, so a review will have to wait.  Scent is wonderful, and if you like Nag Champa, you will like this. Scent strength is a fairly stout 7/10.  Lather will have to wait until several shaves are finished and I know what I'm working with.  Let's just say it'll be low structure when I get it dialed in.  Slickness was very good.  Post shave was the best I've experienced.
Lipripper660: I've been curious about this brand, too. Thanks very much for taking the time to explore it. I'm a little disappointed to hear that it's so soft, but the thought of having another nag champa specimen sounds tempting, and I'm always attracted by a great finish.

Today's razor looks fantastic. I'm not up on vintage blades. Is that a Gillette New? Awesome handle, whatever it is. Thanks again.

My son built some shaving brushes for them on a soap release recently and I got to know a little about them. Interested me enough to buy a couple of soaps. The other one I bought was their take on Bay Rum, Bad Mor, which is not really a bay rum at all but you can sure smell the relationship to it. That soap is much firmer than the Ouroboros yet still very soft like a TOBS cream reaching the bottom of the pot and having lost much of its water. Part of the enjoyment I have with a soap is the loading and these two totally preclude that as they really do perform as creams. I'll keep reporting as I get to know them better. Both scents are wonderful. The post shave felt like I'd shaved with Shea butter. Truly the best I've experienced but I finish with Shea anyway so post shave is not one of the main criteria I seek.

Yes, the razor is a vintage Gillette in the New Improved format. Pretty confusing all that old Gillette vintage stuff. The Gillette Old style gave way to Gillette new improved, which was replaced by the New. The New long comb is my favorite of the three and actually my favorite razor of all I own because of its smooth, efficient nature. The New Improved in the pic is silver plated and when I found it in Pennsylvainia it was black. I really need to polish it up again but rather enjoy the look the bit of tarnish gives in the handle. It is a very comely razor. To my cheeks, the New Improved is not as smooth as the New but it's close.

Proraso blue cream...

Love the smell of this soap. Wish I could describe it. I've been told licorice / anise is one of the ingredients. I can't particularly pin any scent in it. But I like it a lot.

Unfortunately, I find it a very hard soap to use. Slickness and protection are lacking. It's better than nothing, but only by a little... Lol. If it weren't for the scent I'd simply pitch it. If they could somehow work in the qualities of the white into the scent of the blue, Proraso would have a winner. As it is now, it'll sit sidelined until I forget how bad it is again (I think I actually posted somewhere that blue and white were good creams... I got that half right, lol).

Stirling is a favorite of mine. Always predictably good. It's not finicky or fussy. It's not pretentious or uppity. It's a great value always. This one is Sharp Dressed Man and it'll do! Great scent that doesn't linger. This is my bell wether for slickness. Loves a wet brush approach and will offer up loads of creamy goodness. This one smells like spring.
