This soap's virtues and its vices stem from the same source: it does not emulsify well. Chunks and globs and bits and squibbles of hard soap are left bobbing in the lather no matter how much water I add or how long I churn the mass. What results is a slick gritty lather that allows for a fragrant and close shave. This comes, however, at the expense of cushion and stability. Though this morning's first lathering turns out well enough, the second was already thin and fleeting, and I didn't even hope for a third. If more soap had actually made it into the lather I think I'd have see better performance. The finish is inexplicably excellent, even though there's no Shea butter or other superfats in the mix, only glycerin.
Keep in mind that this tub of soap dates from early 2017. Since then I think LPL has improved their formula so that now nearly all the soap you smear in your scuttle melts completely into the lather. I'll check this tomorrow with a fresh sample of a recent offering.
