Piacenza t. (Stirling Soap Co.) Acqua di Parma colonia

This soap's scent is not too far from Acqua di Parma colonia, but it's clearly not the real thing. That's the danger of making a clone of a popular scent. You've got to be spot on. Miss you mark even by a little and folks are bound to be disappointed. Truth be told, it would take a lot of good fragrance to hide the tallowy scent lurking in some of Stirling's soaps. They don't smell like a barnyard or abattoir, they just smell fatty. Their powerfully mentholated scents hide this note well, but some of the milder fragrances smell muted and clogged.

I keep looking at that one because I love the scent but it is so close to DR Harris Windsor, and I have a bunch of that so I have not pulled the trigger yet. Love the Fine aftershave in this flavor.

Thuringian Forest t. (Crowne & Crane) woody cologne

I haven't used a C&C soap for a while, and I forgot just how slick they can be. Today the razor slid over my face like it was on rails, and I had to really mind my grip lest the handle slip from my grasp. Good stuff.

Thuringia is a state in Germany. It's blanketed in forests, and that fact is reflected in this soap's woody scent. But there's lots more than just pine and fir and cedar in this fragrance. A sniff reveals citrus and spice and a little earth, too. Everything plays together nice to make a satisfying cologne. I enjoy it especially in the Fall.
