Ninfeo di Egeria (Wickham Soap Co.) citrus, fig, amber

Egeria was a nymph who according to legend became the counselor and consort of one of the early kings of Rome. Now, a minor ancient deity is a curious choice for the name of a modern soap. What could it have to do with shaving? Well, Egeria's home, the Ninfeo, stood close to the Baths of Caracalla, the largest public bathing and grooming complex in ancient Rome. If one of Egeria's devotees, as part of his bathing ritual, offered a libation to the nymph, she would grant him the gifts of wisdom and prophesy. I can certainly use more of the first gift, and the second wouldn't be bad either. So, I libated the puck generously and whipped up a sumptuous lather. Alas, nothing miraculous happened. My brains are still feeble and I didn't glimpse tomorrow's market trends, but I did get an excellently scented brushload of suds and a very fine shave.
