Ive not used a PAA soap yet, though my first is en route.

I have used their splashes and they are freakin awesome. Fantastic scents, fantastic toning and finish. My favorites are, in order:
1-Cavendish
2-Mal Pais
3-Tombstone
4-9
5-1k

I tried the Spring Heeled Jack, but the caffein gave me a wicked headache, so I had to toss it...

And yea...some people believe that that Douglas is "shady". To date, I have never been given any proof of any intetional wrongdoing on his part, just a lot of people that feel like he is shady, so they accuse him of wrongdoing aithout actually offering any sort of evidence to prove intentional wrongdoing on his part.

It seems to be a very small group of people with what I can only view as a personal vendetta, considering no real reasons or evidence are ever provided. Lots of rumours on the intrawebs. No proof of anything.

And me...I dont listen to rumours.

How do you like Tombstone? I am trying to decide between that one and Rustlers Ridge.

As for PAA, I think a lot of people don't get the joke that Douglas is not a real person. I can't recall what the owner of PAA's real name is, but he was into acting/drama prior to making soaps and decided to create the Douglas character/persona as a mascot to market his products. Shaving with Charky did a long interview with him which can be seen on his YouTube channel, and it's well worth watching to anyone interested in learning more about PAA and the owners (husband and wife team). In the interview he came across as very passionate for wet-shaving and his products. Also, Forbes did a piece on "Douglas Smythe" and PAA which explained the character.

As should always be the case, consider the source. I personally heard the nonsense from a source that I will never again have to worry about hearing, since I removed myself from that source/board. And for those that cannot believe PAA is still a viable artisan, surely it is becoming evident that some artisans/brands are successful enough that a few boards trashing their products does not hurt them much. PAA is a very successful artisan and merchant. The Forbes article should make that obvious.

From what I can tell, the rumors, personal vendettas, and distortions that BadDad mentions are manufactured and propagated elsewhere. Unfortunately people tend to believe what they read on the internet, regardless of the evidence and in spite of contradictory explanations.

I met the PAA artisan very briefly at a meet up event. I like him. I like his products. That's all I need to know on the subject lol.

Ive never used the Tombstone soap, but the splash is great. The scent is like standing in a tack room on a dry day in the desert, with someone loading a black powder musket. Subtle hints of what i took to be leather, witha blast of black powder that will make your head spin. Then it settles very nicely during dry down into a very comforting scent...

It's interesting that you mentioned tack room to describe the scent. PAA has a scent called Tack Room, which also sounds nice.

If PAA stands for Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements...

http://theoriginalsafetytoo.com/thread/1...ng-scandal

Not sure if any of it it is true or not, but a lot of people seemed to think it was and were quite upset. Often wetshaving = drama.

Thats way to complicated to sort out. Not sure who is right or wrong or what gone blown out of proportion.

IF, IN FACT, he lied about being a veteran = inexcusable but its not clear he did. Shilling? Hmm.

NM, I don't care. Everyone deserves a second chance.
