Which base do you prefer?
You have all your facts straight. Smile I’ve never used a first-generation Blackbird, and Shane recently told me that not too many were produced before he rounded out the corners ever so slightly. From what I know, the first-generation razors have the exact same specs as the current ones, but there was just that tiny rounding of the corners, so that they wouldn’t feel sharp against the skin. Blackland Razors, please correct me if I’m wrong.

The safety bar and the open comb behave very similarly in my experience. Also, I don’t notice a real difference in skin feel, when it comes to machined vs. black oxide. That being said, I may just slightly prefer the machined SB to the black oxide OC. But I love them both. Exceptional razors.
I think I'd like the block OC. I have plenty of shiny razors.

That's correct. There are only about 160 of the sharp corner Blackbirds. The rest are rounded.

Over the weekend I brought a Gillette Slim Adjustable with me to see me through Saturday and Sunday. It was loaded with a Nacet on its third shave. I've used the Slim often and the shaves were fine but not memorable. Thinking these razors were born to be mild I dialed it up to 7. My adventure resulted in some razor burn and a sore face. This razor definitely gets aggressive at the higher settings, don't let the vintage fool you/me. I was pleased to know that this baby can hang with my Mergress and Variant, and by Sunday, my face was ready for a two pass shave on setting 3, which was fine and, once again, not terribly memorable. There is nothing not to like about the Slim. I just prefer the ATT and even the SuperSpeeds. But the razor, which must be over 40 by now, looks like it just came out of the box, it works flawlessly, and it's a reminder of a time when the U.S. led the world in workmanship for products large and small.
