Ouarzazate (Comme des Garçons, 2002) frankincense, pepper, nutmeg, labdanum, musk, vanilla

Walking through Chinatown this afternoon, I caught the aroma of incense burning in the temples and shrines. The odd thing was there was none of the smoky side notes you invariably get from lit sticks. Half way to Waikiki and still surrounded by this rich fruity scent I realized what I was smelling was in fact the small dab of Ouarzazate that I'd dabbed on my collar early this morning. It's pretty potent. Opening with a very nice frankincense and pepper, the fragrance melts into a herby labdanum and vanilla accord. It dries down to a spicy musk. Not a bad scent for Christmas in the islands.

Le 3e Homme (Caron, 1985) silken floral fougère

The lavender first caught my attention, but it was the flowers and anise that held my interest. There's so much going on here that it would take a long time to grow tired of this fragrance. Sometimes I get spicy notes, then fern, carnation, rose, woods, vanilla, tobacco, and leather even. It's all spoken softly and politely; so, though it lasts forever, you're not going to gas the person sitting next to you in the theater.
