My 2 cents, after very brief consideration: have them cover up the ID number on the license. You want to protect yourself as well. My initial reaction, if I were in need and considering asking, would be: identity theft, and I would be loathe that send an image of my ID to anyone. I tend to agree with muzichead and the PayPal idea. Heck, you could even give it back after it proved identity.

Having copies of government IDs might be asking for trouble (hacks to steal that info).

I will ruminate on it some and see if I can come up with anything. HighSpeed got it right, in my opinion, that this may be the cost of running this charitable PIF. I wouldn't be overjoyed, if any donation I made went to a scammer, but I donated in the spirit of helping anyone, no strings attached. I know you, DanLaw , are doing your best to keep this true to its purpose, and don't fault you if an occasional scammer makes it through.

Many thanks again for running this and helping other, and giving us all a chance to help as well!

Was thinking same re ID number masking.

Am ambivalent re accepting fraud. Know a few people were quite upset (understandably) so there is that side to consider.
