It's been over a year since I posted about this, so I thought I'd ask again. I'd like to buy a couple more Rooney Finest brushes, so if you have any to sell please PM me. I am not interested in M&F brushes, just the original Rooneys and only in Finest grade hair.
Thanks.

John, WHAT defines a Rooney Finest? Are these discontinued, from a specific time range, any photos? They are such an elusive company I'd appreciate any insights.

Chris, there are others here who are much better historians about Rooney than I am.  The brushes were made when Lee Sabini was the manufacturing manager, I think, at Rooney, and ovesaw their production.  I believe that retail sales of the Finests ended around 2010, and since then they have become increasingly scarce and costly.  Opinions about their qualities vary, and the brushes themselves have slightly differeing individual qualities, although the majority of those who have used them agree that they have a nearly unmatched combination of excellent backbone/flowthrough and very white, soft hair tips with a slight scritch.  For me they make the best lather and feel better overall on my skin than any other brushes, smooth but with body and character.  They just feel exactly right. If you look at my SOTD and shaving brush of the day images, you'll see that most of them feature Finests.

So that is Sabatini's background. How are current Rooney's rated? I am in love with my new Plisson and having a representative someday of past and present classics would be fun ( I may still reknot my five shedded Simpson Grosvenors and engrave a disclaimer on the bases.)

I haven't used Rooney Silvertips, but my impression is that others rate them as being about equal to current Simpsons Silvertips.

I'll stick with Paladin and Plisson then.

Well while those are some nice brushes, there is only one "finest". I certainly recommend you try to get one if just to try it and then sell it. There are always individuals looking to purchase "original Rooney finest" brushes. I had one for 10 years and I could tell a difference between it and newer brushes. Like a vintage muscle car, not as shinny or fast as the new ones, but still cherished by many. The "finest" have a place. Here is my 2008 Rooney 2/1 in finest before John helped me fund a new interest. I'll get another one, but maybe a different handle or size. I just needed to fund a new project and he caught me at a weak moment.
Enjoy the brush John, I admire your passion for these brushes! Thanks again!

I have two or three of these, one of which came directly to me from Mr. Sabini a few years back. I love these brushes, and wouldn't consider selling them.
Best Regards,

Gary
