Viking Soap

I've been watching the series Vikings on Netflix for the last few weeks following the adventures of Ragnar Lothbrok and have been inspired to shave with Viking Soap's Ragnar shaving soap (tallow version).  This soap is made by Viking  who also did the most recent DFS LE brushes.  I find that the soap is a very good performer, lathers well but the scent is just addictive.  I really enjoy using it and the label graphic is pretty cool too.  If you haven't tried this brand you should give them a look at www.vikingsoap.com. There are a few of the soaps there that look interesting to me and may just tempt me....

I have used his soap since right after it first came out and IMO it is one of the biggest "sleepers" in all of shavedom. I have a tub of tallow Ragnar now and am waiting for his next batch of Tree of Life to be finished. Viking & CBL Tonsorial soaps are the two best "bang for the buck" lines in artisan shaving.

Your question has variable answers contingent upon what type of brush is used. I only use the latest gen. YaQi synthetics and load with a damp (not wet!!) brush and add drops of water directly to the brush during face lathering until I reach "yogurt" level.

Viking is one of my favorites. I have Valhalla, Norway, Citrus and Old Norse. The lather reminds me of Martin de Candre in that a small amount of loading explodes into abundant lather. It can take a lot of water and makes a nice slick lather. If you use the Marco method of loading, it will make more lather than your brush can hold; you will be flinging lather all over the sink. I use a wet, but not sopping wet brush to load.

I rotate between Grooming Dept and Viking Soap.

I just bought some Odin's Beard knots from Andrew yesterday, I should have grabbed a soap. The pics I've seen online make it look like it works excellently. Is anyone willing to send me a sample of one of the tallow soaps in his new base? Maybe a quarter size or so. I'll obviously pay for the shipping and the soap itself. Shoot me a PM if so.

He might. Shoot him a message and ask. I exchanged a few emails with him a year or so ago because his online shipping system didn't have D.C. as a possible location. He was great about fixing the error and quick to mail it out.
