Nothing like coming across a discussion to see someone randomly referencing you without relevance or merit, especially when the same person (nameisjoey) takes time out of their day to make a tongue in cheek offer on a seperate WTB razor post. What's with your obsession with me? I know the concept of flipping is something you have never been able to quite understand despite how simple it is (buying an item with the purpose of reselling for profit). Just because I try to recoup the $1000 a brush maker charges me for an item doesn't make me a flipper despite how much you want it to be true. I dont blame the artisan for trying to take advantage of a profitable situation and if someone else finds the same value in the item so be it. If not I keep it, drop the price as relevant, or pif it depending on my mood.

Artisans are free to charge what they will.
Resellers are free to charge what they will.
Haters are free to hate. They just come across as ridiculous trolls who no one takes seriously, here or in the multiple other forums they cant help but spout their same nonsense.

For the people who are anti flipping, can you please find me one source of where this morality that you are trying to impose on people exists? I googled it Smile I cant find anything, anywhere! Or is something that is OK to do in any any hobby, but somehow it's a bad thing, morally to do it in the wetshaving hobby circles. I'm sure some of you have bought houses, and hopefully sold for profit, and that's what you expect to happen. I'm sure some have sold heirloom on eBay, etc..

Flipping or reselling goods at higher prices, if demands exists, is a fundamental part of Capitalism. This is what our society's economics are built on.

I also believe Aldo is doing the right thing if he feels his brushes command that price. A consequence of his decision will limit the ability of some people to purchase his brushes. At the same time, these brushes are rare, and now they might become rarer. If there is demand on the second hand market, these brushes will continue to increase in price.

Can anybody please discuss without somehow resorting to insulting people.

I think it has to do with the community aspect of the forums, reddit, facebook groups etc. Everyone becomes friendly within those communities. Would you walk into a store, buy something, use it once just to be able to talk about it, then flip it to a buddy for some number higher than retail? No, you probably wouldn't. Those that are pro flipper don't care about the community aspect, or growing the hobby, they just care about themselves, and making a buck. Those that are against it would love for as many people to try as many things as they can.

IME, IMO, YMMV.

So take Joey for example -

Joey doesn’t flip gear (who knows if he does or not) so he’s all about the community? Read his post for Christ’s sake.

There’s nothing community building about it.

I'm not sure why the wet shaving world is held up on some pedestal....it's a market, where goods and services are traded/sold just like about everything in existence today...whether flipped, traded or sold, who cares? if someone is willing to pay the price for something someone is selling, who is harmed in that transaction? the seller and buyer both benefit, in some way...

I bought a toggle from an antique shop in San Antonio, Texas like 2-3 years ago for around $60. I sold it on ebay for nearly $200. who was harmed in this transaction? I paid them what they wanted for the product and someone paid me what they felt like was a good price for the item I was selling....
