I agree iamsms. The biggest mistake new wet shavers make is buying everything under the sun. The ONE thing I did correctly when I got back into this was to stick with the same brush, soap, and razor for three months. After that I went a little crazy with purchases, but since then I have rid myself of A LOT of needless gear. I still have my 20 or so DEs that I really do like, but I only have about 10 brushes and about 20-30 soaps. I am not buying anymore soaps and brushes, but the baby smooth by RR always intrigued me so I bought one. I have 2-3 straights now also.

I think that three months really helped with technique IMO.

Cobra Classic with Feather Pro. I use this every time I shave.

I own 3 razors. A Muhle R89, Geo. F Trumper Gold Warwick and an Above The Tie Kronos 5 piece closed comb set. Once I started using the ATT three years ago it is the only razor I have used since.

I've had a hard time using anything else after getting my hands on a Ti BBS-1. Paired with Polsilvers I'm in heaven.

Shaving is like putting two coathangers or rabbits in a closet or cage and waking up to find 30 hangers and a dozen bunnies. After eight years I had more stuff than ever planned and was able to assemble several complete kits for homeless vets in my area. I gave some online friends items and am close to my ideal and somewhat reduced setup.
I am using one of the customised variants of the Merkur Progress. Adjustables may give better performance with blades once found wanting and even for successive passes at different settings. I was a Super Iridium/Polsilver user exclusively but have rediscovered other russian blades that get along in this setup nicely.
My favorite and ideal brush is the Paladin Lotus. It has it all; performance, ergonomics, aesthetics and I hope to eventually acquire a rotation and retire everything else.
Soaps are Hemingway's moveable feast but I am dieting. Mitchell's Wool Fat was my second soap some eight years past after a disaster with a not to be named brand. I must have done something very wrong, because I have never once had issue lathering. There are other soaps in my rotation; much loved but MWF is an absolute must.
