This topic has been done before but I get questioned about it often so....... When I travel with a brush my main concerns are 1) getting my brush dry, and 2) keeping the brush fibers from taking a beating. The "dry" issue is easy to solve with a synthetic brush and mine is a 22mm tuxedo in a handle my son turned for me. The "protection" is a fastener container I picked up at Home Depot for a few dollars.

This is not my original idea. Someone on a forum a couple of years back shared the idea with us and I've found it to be the best solution for me. This "brush protector" has been with me in many states and countries and still looks new. Better yet, my brush has always arrived unscathed. Even better, my wallet never took a shot. The diameter is big enough for a 30mm brush should you choose. It won't fit a barber style handle so choose a shorter one. The top has a slit in it that would allow for ambit of air flow to finish drying a well shaken out brush and in fact I have not had to unpack it for drying once I returned home. (It's always been dry).

So what have you found that works?

I agree with using synthetics for travel given they are the quickest drying. I like to take a Razorock Plissoft with me when I travel. It's cheap so easily replaced if lost or stolen. I carry it around in a Simpson's large brush holder. It fits the brush perfectly as far as diameter is concerned. It can accommodate a brush with a little taller loft. If I had known about some of the other options such as the one mentioned here I would have gone that route. But I'm happy with my current gear. It works well for me and has accompanied me both across the US as well as overseas.

I have a couple of travel set ups, one my hotel/visiting family set up a Simpson Chubby 2 Synthetic in a Simpson travel tube, and what I call my field set up a 24mm Razorock Synthetic that travels in a drilled out large pill bottle (free from my local drug store) never had any problems, the RR brush has acquired some scuffs but at $12 it's quite replaceable and it lathers every time

The VTainer from Home Depot is a great solution. For me size really makes a difference because I try to get everything into a dopp kit. Smaller than the VTainer, both diameter (tapering in from about 2”) and height (about 5 1/2 “), is a 60 dram plastic and more or less cylindrical pill bottle. The ones I’ve seen are amber. A 3/16” bit, 5 holes each in the top and bottom will provide the circulation, the rest will give you the protection.

I missed a couple of things. It’s called the ‘ViewTainer’ not the VTainer. If you plan to get any (they can be useful for a multitude of purposes), REMEMBER THIS. They come with a sticker that has the company name on it. You can peel off the sticker but it leaves an adhesive residue that will not depart for love or money. I tried everything short of a blowtorch and in a mood of desperation and climbing pique, sent a note to the company which essentially said What the H. Within a matter of hours I received a thoughtful and considerate note in reply from their man Ethan, a person of refined political skills and good humor, who told me the two words I needed to remember GOO and GONE, the extensive powers of which I had forgotten, in fact the possession of which I had forgotten. Worked like a charm.

I take a synthetic, wrap it in a 12" x 12" microfiber towel, and secure it with two rubber bands. The microfiber towel both dries and cushions the brush. The towel usually dries fast enough, but it takes little space to carry an extra.

I use a medicine bottle from the local Walgreen's Pharmacy. Drilled some holes in it and it works perfectly.
The price can't be beat as it was free. I told them I was working on a project that I needed a larger bottle for. I offered to pay for a couple of the larger sized bottles so that I could see what size would be best and they were kind enough to give me one of each of the larger ones.

Not really trying to be cheap. I don't want for anything nicer though as it works as well or better than anything I could pay for.

The only thing to be careful with is when drilling the holes start with a smaller bit and work your way up or you'll crack it.

My Wife got me a ‘Range’ Dopp Kit as a gift a while ago, and while checking out their site I found this case/wrap for my travel Brush. It’s very simple, but looks good and does a good job of protecting the Brush during travel. I’m really happy with it, and also picked up one of the ‘Range’ travel cases for my travel Razor.

Walk into your local pharmacy and ask for a couple of extra large pill bottles. They may give them to you for free (mine did) or they may charge you a buck or two. They work just fine.
