B Cubed is B to the third power, ie, BBB for Blackberry Blossom Bay.  As it’s apparently not identical Scott is calling it B Cubed so you know it’s related to BBB but isn’t identical. I’m intrigued.

I meant no “bay” in the name. It’s named after a bluegrass tune by the same name....Blackberry Blossom. I realize it has a bay rum scent and the original scent by CL did have Bay in the name. I don’t know how different this one is. Maybe not at all.

"Blackberry Blossom" is a bluegrass song to which the Chatillon Lux pays tribute. BBB is a bay-based scent, though not a traditional bay rum. Believe me.

Interesting interpretation, however, the original Blackberry Blossom Bay was created by Shawn Maher at my request a few years back. I wanted him to do a riff on bay rum because I love bay rum and wanted one with the awesome qualities of Chatillon Lux post shave products. Shawn, however, has a very strong dislike of traditional bay rum so after some back and forth discussion he Went into his olfactory lab And creative nose and came up with Blackberry Blossom Bay. It was never a tribute to any song bluegrass or otherwise and if there’s a song by that name I believe it’s a coincidence. Now maybe I’m wrong and Shawn was naming it in tribute but if that’s the case he kept it a secret for several years. Maybe it’s ex post facto marketing- Shawn’s other job is advertising. There is West Indian Bay in it but certainly no bay rum. That was the deal. I solicited enough pre-orders from DFS members to ensure he could sell it and the rest is history.

This is my recollection but I’m from Canada and cannabis is legal here and while I don’t indulge, it’s possible that the mere proximity to the stuff has addled my thinking.
You might want to read Marko's post above but then he does admit to the possibility of addled thinking (LOL). Scott does mention the song Blackberry Blossom in his description. Now if he still had the aftershave, I would have ordered a set.

I reached out to Shawn on Instagram and he confirmed that after creating the scent he was researching a name and how he could tie it in to St. Louis history and came across the song so it is actually named after that song. I didn’t know that and now I do which is good. Shawn also considered using the musical staff to that song on the label of the second release (which included the DGsoap) but it didn’t work visually and they went with the riverboat.  I’ve always thought it was cool how Shawn combines his love if fragrance with his love of St. Louis and it’s history.   I think he’s making his mark on the history of that great city. I’ll never cheer for the Blues though  Big Grin

I received my tub of B Cubed today and it smells pretty good. I did a side by side with the Blackberry Blossom Bay and it’s very close. I think the bay is slightly muted in B Cubed compared to BBB but it’s still very nice. I’ll have a better idea after I lather it.  Happy2
