I received mine, yesterday, and used it for my head shave, last night.
I have to say that it was the best head shave that I have ever had. It was mild, extremely smooth and efficient.
No other razor has performed as well as this one, for my head shaves.

However, I tried it for two passes on my face/neck, but found it a bit mild. I had to buff in most areas and it wasn't the same efficiency that I had experienced with my head shave, unfortunately. I had to finish the shave with my Blackbird SB.

I'll give it a few more tries on my face, but I don't foresee it improving.
Nonetheless, if it performs like it did on my head shaves, then I'll be extremely happy as I shave my head, every night. Smile

It is a beautifully made razor, but the handle just doesn't work for me. I used Mamba head with my Stork Ex Titanium handle, which offered a more balanced weight.

Used the new RR Mamba today to mixed reviews.

Five things I really like:

I can't think of any other North American made steel DE razor that sells for under $50.00.
I can't think of any other North American made steel DE razor that sells for under $50.00.

I can't think of any other North American made steel DE razor that sells for under $50.00.

Things I'm still mulling over:

With the stock handle the balance felt off and I couldn't get the bottom part of the handle to unscrew.
The shave is really really mild but it also seems to have a really really narrow effective shave window.

Things I learned:

Switching to the RR Halo Titanium handle made the balance near perfect and length perfect.
When you get the angle outside the effective window it just doesn't cut as well but never bit me.
Other razors from RR like the Old Type are really more efficient and as comfortable.
It takes a full three pass shave with post alum touchup to get the a PDG+ shave.

Thank for sharing your impressions of the Mamba.

Haven’t used one, but I had a chance to examine one a couple of days ago, and noticed that the action of that screw on the bottom of the handle is really iffy. In that situation, the additional weight was easy to take out, but trying to put it back was almost impossible.

The point you made about a $50 North American steel razor is noteworthy. (The only other one I could think of ever hitting that mark was the Weber razor, which of course is a thing of history now.)

Its a wonderful offering for the price. I missed out on its initial sale. I think the only other razor that could compare to it, simply from a price standpoint would be the Rockwell, but the great thing about that is, you get an adjustable there. With the Rockwell, the Mamba and now a Colonial single edge stainless all under 100 thats incredible for the shaving market. I hope to hear more from those that got the Mamba. How does it handle, how does it shave, etc. I look forward to more reviews. Again, Razorock is incredible for shaving and their budget minded gear is exactly what the doctor ordered.

I love the Rockwell but its finish leaves me wanting something shinier. The Mamba has an excellent finish, really first class in my opinion. Yes its a milder shaver than many but as mentioned above it doesn't bite so if you've got the patience and a sharp blade you'll get a decent shave.

I've looked into getting the Rockwell plated and I've learned that plating stainless steel is an iffy proposition and really not an option, however, coating it with something like Jay at Delta Echo does is an option so while you can't make it incredibly shiny you can make it incredibly cool. The Rockwell 6c, while shiny, isn't stainless steel but rather zamak. The Mamba comes incredibly shiny and needs nothing else. I had no issues with the handle weight, however, I will give it a go with the Ti Halo handle to see if I like that.

Kind of an ironic name if there's no fear of it biting you, eh?

Before returning to the world of Open Comb razors I gave the new RR Mamba one more outing. This time I began just like I was using a Single Edge or the Durham Duplex and put the cap on my face, handle almost perpendicular to the surface of my face and simply kept that orientation. Almost no pressure and shave with my full arm.

The result was a two pass and touchup PDG+ near perfect shave, effortless and comfortable. Alum felt cold and still tastes bad but zero signs of irritation and there was almost no post alum skin stretching places left I could play with...but I kept looking.

The soap for today is the Orange Blossom & Jasmine from Above the Tie and continuing the floral theme a citrus, rose and patchouli aftershave from Chatillon Lux. The brush is a RazoRock 400 Finest Badger.

The RazoRock Mamba will not be something that the Feel The Steel folk will enjoy but it is certainly a very efficient, very comfortable tool when married to the right handle for you.

See, it has my interest. I don't like blade feel, and this is part of the reason I haven't bought the beautiful Blackbird yet, because everyone describes it as having a ton of blade feel. I tend to prefer milder feeling razors, that are efficient. As stated by me before, my absolute favorite razor is a Timeless .68SB and Wolfman .61SB. Now for some reason, the Wolfman feels more aggressive to me than my timeless but they give me about the same shave. I'm all about mild feeling razors that give one a clean shave, so this Mamba has my interest. At $50 it'd be hard to go completely wrong.

The only issue I found was that the stock handle was too long and too heavy.  I swapped it for a RazoRock Titanium Halo handle I had here.

BUT, I also find the Open Comb RazoRock Old Type equally mild and even more efficient and there are still some head only units available at $8.00.  For $8.00 it's a winner.

The Blackbird SB is quite deceptive with blade feel as the bottom-plate is what, I believe, most folks are feeling instead of the blade. Granted, you can feel the blade, of course, but it isn't as aggressive as you are hearing. It is more effective than aggressive, in my opinion.
Having said this, I would recommend the Polished version as it seems to have the least pronounced bottom-plate feel seeing as it is polished, whereas the other two coating are not.

Regarding the new RazorRock Mamba, I also did not care for the handle as it is a bit too heavy for the head. I have been using my Stork Titanium handles, especially, the Ex Titanium and it works beautifully with the Mamba head.
I still find this razor a bit too mild for my face shaves, but it is providing me with superb head shaves, for some reason. Smile
