2. He's settled on a finishing process that requires less manual effort

Whatever the case may be, I think this pricing strategy is a savvy business move. He's differentiating himself in the market in an area where he has a lot of skill-- designing and sourcing low-cost/high-value products.

He's already retailing Above the Tie, Charcoal Goods, Feather, and iKon razors, so it's not like he's ignoring the premium market either.

RazoRock is quickly becoming my favorite razor maker. I've been following them since their introduction of the Wunderbar and have been getting all their steel and Ti razors since, basically the Ti BS and SS Hawk DLC, and none have disappointed me.

I will jump on that Mamba as soon as it's available.

I've even been considering selling off my ATT razors because they never get any use anymore.

Will amend that part of my post, but I still think the rest are valid possibilities for why he's able to deliver lower prices.

Oh, absolutely valid possibilities for sure Watson. I just thought to quote that it will be Canadian made. I know a lot of forum posts bash Joe & Italian Barber but I think a lot of it is driven by jealousy. He can get customers a close smooth shave at a fraction of the cost of a $400 titanium razor.

Sometimes I wonder how he can keep prices so low.

My main theory is other retailers/makers just like making a nice hefty margin and material/machining/finishing costs aren't as high as they claim. Smile

Most times you pay for the name.

About profit margin, Colonial was selling the brass made Generals for $100, but after seeing that the batches had several problems/ flaws they started selling them 40% off of initial retail price. These razors were made in China, so they were still making profit. I don't know if they're sold out, I was intrigued, but I can't pay for a flawed product.

There are a number of IB haters out there on some of the other forums, including the mods that are trying to spread rumours that Joe's razors are not made in Canada and are of dubious origin (China?). They can continue to hate, but IB is going to eat their lunch and continue to win customers over with his high quality, reasonable price offerings.

I don't doubt this. given he way the Canadian economy is going there are probably plenty of idle or under-utilized machine shops and factories that will do the work for a discount just to keep the lights on.

Because we are able to move higher volume, and we are willing to work on lower margins because of the former, it allows us to pass that on to the clients.

We are doing our best to keep pushing innovation and our goal is unparalleled value... We just try to get better every day.

Yes, another forum loves to bash us, but that makes sense because they are owned /aligned with another vendor who's sole reason for starting the forum was to push high value/high margin products for his own benefit... We like our strategy better because everyone benefits.
