Bishop seems pretty nice. I always stop at Schat's for some bread whenever I'm up there.

Do yourself a favor and check out Great Basin Bakery next time through town. Better bread, better service, better prices, smaller lines. It's the local preference. Shhh....don't tell anyone lol...

Hey Chris -- I've been going up to Mammoth and Bishop for 30 years, skiing & fishing. My earliest days of learning to fly fish were on the Upper Owens and the gorge at Hot Creek. As you might expect, a pretty steep learning curve. Didn't come up this last winter as I've been focused more on surfing and paddling these days than snowboarding. Last year my GF and I stayed up at Convict Lake for a wedding in the fall and the colors were at their peak. She loved the deer eating out of her hand on the deck of our cabin and put up with me as I caught a couple of rainbows by the Chalk Bluffs. Nothing like catching a nice wild trout on a fly you tied yourself. Good thing I used a barbless hook because right on cue a ranger came out of nowhere to check my fly.
