I'm going to try to sort out what works and what doesn't when it comes to using optional width and height settings for posted images..

Hot-linked image, default 680 x 510 size.
(The URL is https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/news..._bunny.jpg)

Okay.

Same image URL, but optional height = 340, width = 255

Hey, it worked. I could never get it to work before.

(Point of fact: It's not a pancake, it's a dorayaki.)

Uneven scaling?
w 200 x h 400
[Image: pancake_bunny.jpg]

Yup. Still works.

Uploaded to imgur, default:

Same image file uploaded to imgur and scaled down to 125 x 125:

Woo-hoo! It worked, but I had to edit it in the "View source" editor to do it.
It looks like this:
Code:
[img=125x125]https://i.imgur.com/Vm6IRmM.jpg[/img]
Scaled and hot-linked images work the same way in the source view.

Huh I have no idea why neither method ever worked for me before.

Try something else.

normal 256x256:

Scale the width only to 125, leave height blank:

Huh. Nothing happens.

what exactly are you trying to do? the site is designed to automatically scale images based on the screen size, just like the entire site layout.

With Imgur there're three options:
• normal, name file
• medium, m after name file
• thumb, t after name file

Code:

1000x1000px (original size)

Code:
[img]https://i.imgur.com/E1ROjOJm.png[/img]
320x320px

Code:
[img]https://i.imgur.com/E1ROjOJt.png[/img]
160x160px

Or just use the pixel setting into IMG function.
Best option for PNG, GIF, and format different than JPG.
Code:
[img=500x500]https://i.imgur.com/E1ROjOJ.png[/img]
500x500px

Code:
[img=320x320]https://i.imgur.com/E1ROjOJ.png[/img]
320x320px

Code:

"What I'm trying to do" is to figure out hoit works, in a way that is predictable.
Sometimes I want them much smaller than the default size, or to make random-sized images all the same.
It did not seem to work at all for me before until I made this thread. I don't know what changed, but it's no longer an issue, I guess.

And work all over the web, not just in one system.
On other forums / webpage / social network the pixel setting is not allowed.

There're others, but I do not like them:
• small square, s after file name
• big square, b after file name
• large thumbnail, l after file name
• huge thumbnail, h after file name

Ischiapp, what a lovely picture you have uploaded! How can I download it? I know, guys, that you are trying to find the best way to upload, but how may I download?

I have moved recently to a new rent, and I want to make a nice corner in my room, a creative one with a lot of printed pictures. So your image appealed to my eyes! I got a nice discount on https://www.frameshop.com.au for printing photos on canvas. But looking at that pictures, thinking to myself it would be better to print it on acrylic glass prints—more clarity and suitable for my minimalist house design.

Many thanks to John Rose and ischiapp.  I have long wanted to know how to better manipulate photo size on the forum, and I used the information in this thread to do that today.  It was easy (once I knew how), and it worked well.
