Stirling Soap 316 Stainless Steel Razor

Gentlemen your shave results are consistent with my experience using the prototype way back. That hyper efficient plate is aptly naked and the handle gives its balance some extra maneuvering ability. The polishing looks great and coupled with the he case I’m looking forward to its release and Rod selling plenty.

Anyone hear if Rod is getting close to release on this bad boy?

As a follow up, AC with the hyper plate put a 17 hour BBS on me. That places her is some pretty rare company. Without doing side by side shave, I'd say it is in the WR2 1.45mm to 1.55mm gap range and bests almost everything in my den in terms of it's ability to remove hair. If I really paid attention to my beard map, I'm certain I could do a 1 pass BBS with no issues.

Now, I'm looking forward to using the ST plate.

Second shave with Ann today. I loaded it with an etched Personna and used Milksteak soap.

The blade definitely dampened some sharp feeling. A Personna or GSB would be my preference in this razor for sure.

I went back and watched Rod's video using Ann again. I can respect how he wields this razor with such speed but I think I'd bleed. That video may make Ann look all laid back and easy to handle but my advice is to mind your manners.

The Personna helped smooth her out a little bit too. More comfortable for sure and if I give up an hour worth of BBS as payment, that's a no brainer for me. Well worth.

I still dig the handle. The long sexy neck forces the main grip closer to head which is fine with me. It increase head control which I appreciate with such efficiency.

I had no issues under the nose or any skin anomalies. The razor is well balanced and maneuvers well.

If I were to compare its ability to remove hair with other razors, its definitely in the iKon Tech, WR1 .94, WR2 145, 2011 R41 range while being much more comfy than the R41 or iT.

Ann is right in my wheelhouse. Congrats Rod. You put together a fine instrument. This is an excellent first installment.

If you like large gapped razors that are not mindless, this is a daisy.

Great question and it's actually a real good comparison. Same kind of blade feel. I'd say a 5 on the Sailor. Maybe slightly less. The Sailor will be a touch smoother.

I challenge you to run those two together and see how close I am!

Any updates?

Yes, according to a Facebook post from Rod yesterday, a disaster has occurred. Apparently the machining company he used decided to take a shortcut on cost, violate their agreement, and have the razors engraved in China. Rod was very displeased about this since they are supposed to be entirely made in the USA. This will nullify that and also bring in some legal issues with them saying "Made the USA" on them. Long story short, he's not going to sell the razors as is and it's back to the starting line. I'm sure he's out a ton of money. It's such a shame because Rod is a great guy and is not deserving of this type of setback. I really hope there is some legal recourse to be done. I think the machine shop should have to redo all 300 of the razors and have them properly engraved here in the US like they should have been.

Depending on what the contract says, there should be recourse but that always costs money.  There is also the question of how much of Stirling's money does the machine shop already have and are they going to just give it back if Rod chooses to go elsewhere.  The issue is obviously the integrity of the machine shop, ie, they have none.  Even if Rod goes somewhere else and gets the product he wants, there is still the issue of 300 Chinese made razors with Stirling Soap Co. Made in the USA etched on them floating around - what are the odds that a contractor with the scruples of the one he originally chose will just chuck those in the scrap metal bin? Rod will have to make an obvious design change to allow the real razors to be distinguished from the fakes.  What a mess.  I'm reminded of the Rockwell experience in their early days but I think this might be even messier.
