I know I am dating myself, but the river just looks different without the Admiral moored there anymore. It took its trip to the scrap dock while I was still on active duty.

This area plants so much agriculture that it forms a new weather pattern only now being studied. The transpiration, or "corn sweat" puts so much moisture back into the air on the hottest days, they form their own pop up thunder showers. But the breeze is blowing now, it wont in Aug. You can feel yourself melting just getting your morning paper.

Just another reason why our day was special. It was very pleasant.

As an aside, here is an article from last July describing corn sweat if you never heard of it before.

Now there you go, I learned something todaySmile Corn Sweat - makes sense. I figure those plant geeks who work on hybridizing and so forth ought to work on corn that doesn't sweat so much - all that water has to come out of the water table and is often pumped through various irrigation systems. It's be more efficient if it needed less water because it sweat off less water.

Yeah, I am with you there. When the Saint Louis Art Museum had their STL Modern exhibit to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Arch by celebrating mid-century modern design in St. Louis, they had a history of the Admiral. It's a real bummer.

If you're dating yourself, I am too. Big Grin

This afternoon, I took the Metro to the Missouri History Museum in Forest Park and saw several excellent exhibits, my favorites being of the 1904 World's Fair and the Civil Rights movement in St. Louis.  The Metro was comfortably air conditioned, the museum was comfortably air conditioned but the short one block walk to and from the museum turned me into a grease spot.  Guys, if this is your idea of the "cooler" part of the impending summer, I'm glad hawns held the meet-up when he did. Tongue. I won't lie, I have had a fantastic time here in St. Louis but I am really looking forward to some comfy San Diego weather tomorrow afternoon.  (I'm due back home at 3:40 P.M.)

Awesome! I am glad you had fun there. I love the World's Fair exhibit but still haven't made it out the civil rights exhibit. Soon I need to make it out there.

Also, you know how people have this really amazing ability to adjust their tolerances to accommodate all kinds of hardships? Well, I still haven't figured out how to properly deal with St. Louis summer. I just have to be prepared to arrive places early, then go towel off in the bathroom.

One last post with pictures about my first visit to St. Louis.  On Sunday, my friend, Mike, and his son picked me up at the Central/West End Metro stop and whisked me over to the Missouri Botanical Gardens.  It was definitely on my must do list while here and it was all I hoped it would be.  I am now at Lambert Field and my flight will start boarding in about an hour and a half.  This was a whirlwind first trip but I sure crammed in a lot and, hawns, the meet-up was the perfect way to start this mini-vacation. I'm glad it was so enjoyable. Also, despite the heat, it looks like it was a beautiful day at MoBot (as the locals like to call it). Thanks for coming out and I'm glad you enjoyed your time in STL!

I believe this may very well be my first ever post here in DFS, but I had to come on here and comment on this gathering. I had a great time talking to everyone. Great pictures as well! I'm in the same boat of wishing I had taken more (by more, I mean any pictures) but, I have great memories of it anyway. Thanks again for all the fun, hope we can make it a yearly thing!

I thought I was the only guy to use the towel (or, hanky/bandana folded in pocket) to freshen up. I guess us crazies usually have more things in common than I first thought. Big Grin
