SS v Ti Shave Properties in Otherwise Identical Razors of ALL Brands

There has been some active debate regarding substantial and minor differences in shave characteristics between Stainless Steel and Titanium safety razors.  

It is hoped those familiar will comment in detail and where possible attempt to explain the etiology of the differences they perceive.

My predisposition based on a very few one off experiences is that it is partly due to weight differences (sometimes exaggerated as weight balance changes) and hypoallergenic properties of Ti alloys vis a vis those comprising Stainless Steel.

Metallugists, engineers, physicians and owners of identical razors in both SS and Ti probably are most qualified to address this. Know Matt at Timeless has both experience and thoughts on the subject. Andrew no doubt has something to state also....

I am only 2 shaves in, but I am finding the Ti2 to be smoother but just as efficient as the SS. Now, after a couple more shaves I will return to the 17-4 to make a proper comparison. I am one to believe this primarily has to do with the reduced weight of the Ti, as that's the only thing makes sense to my highly unedumacated, tile contracting brain...

Haha, we need shave by the numbers to chime in. He always has good take on technical issues.

I'm finding the Titanium head to be a bit smoother then the 17-4 but the 17-4 to be slightly more aggressive.

How could this be. I suspect that with the weight of the Titanium being lighter that I'm shaving with slightly less pressure but I've tried the heads with different handles and to me the 17-4 is still slightly more aggressive. I have to spend some more time with each but at this point I do find them to be a bit different from one another. I'm happy about this as I planned on hanging onto both of them.

I have threaded the Titanium handle onto the 17-4 head and it went on smoothly. The 17-4 head with the Titanium handle is a nice combination. I've also found several handles that don't fit on the 17-4 do thread right onto the Titanium II without issue so that's a positive for me as I like to try different combinations.

I've been using Feather blades in both razors as well so no difference there.

I suspect that you won't get too many comparisons as there aren't many of these razors out there (only 28 Titanium II razors so far and I think 50 of the 17-4).
Then again, I do suspect that a lot of people who jumped on the Titanium razors did so because they already have a 17-4 and liked it that well. So there's that and the razors are quite popular on this forum as well. So we'll see.

Either way, I'm looking forward to hearing what other's think about them both and how they compare to one another.

I've had one Titanium handle attached to an ATT SE1 head for months with no issues but I will take your advice as it's better safe than sorry.

OMG. Really? Has anyone actually had this problem? I recently paired a SS head with a ti handle. I wondering if I will have a problem as I do not want to unscrew them every day.

Was told to me by numerous engineers from one of leading universities in world as well as former head of maint instruction at one of world's largest airlines

Now truth told was not specific to razors nor interaction of SS with Ti particularly but did encompass most metals interacting with Ti including various steels.
