We need more people to sign up for this soap sample pass around. It is a great opportunity to review about 100 soap samples from some great artisans. I encourage people to give it a try.

Got the box. USPS split it wide open but nothing seems to be missing so tonight is a big sniff-fest! Holy Cats! This is an intimidating box of awesomeness. Somebody sign up to get this after me!

goofed around tonight and I'll give a few impressions of scent. Obviously my sniffer will be different than yours. First off, Oleo Soapworks knows how to do scent! I can't recall a single soap in the Baggie that wasn't a keeper. One that I wouldn't have guessed liking but did, melonaide! That screams summer to me. Every one of her scents I found approachable and feel would have broad appeal. There is a big Baggie full of a Finnish Soaper called Razormaster. Scents are not nearly as approachable as Oleos but neither are they as predictable. These scents are fun not because they smell familiar but because of the mental pictures they conjure. Campfires and tar and tree resins. Perhaps not as much wide appeal as a Green Irish Tweed dupe but I sure found them intriguing. So much so that I palm lather a pea-sized sample. The lather built quickly, was thirsty, made a higher structure lather that was very slick. Scent lingered for some time afterwards. Well boys and girls, I have Lisa's Natural Somali Rose loaded in a bowl to use in the morning. I'll be using a Gillette New for the next week.

Ps: some of you cats need to sign up on this list to have a crack at using these soaps. It's a trip having so many scents from so many makers to sniff and compare one to another. My nose is getting a workout!

I have been intrigued by Lisa's Natural Herbal Creations and in particular Somali Rose, thus it got the nod for this morning. This one is Lisa's premium soap base and I was interested in that also. First, the scent. Out of the jar I get a complex blend of scent that I can't put names to but upon lathering I clearly get sandalwood and rose. The rose is the synthetic rose that seems to want to pass for the scent of a garden rose but to my nose comes off cloying and a bit brash. The sandalwood however takes the sharp edges off the rose and actually makes the mix pretty appealing. That said, I believe I am finding that I like the IDEA of a rose scented soap more than I actually like a rose scented soap. So now the shave. I don't bowl lather almost ever so I used a bowl to load the brush but lathered it on my face. The lather comes fairly quickly and by adding a drop of water here and there I produced a shiny, ropey lather that reminds me of Mikes. That said, cushion and slickness were not in the same class as Mikes. Post shave was kind of middling. But before I firmly place Lisa's into a midrange soap category I have to disclose that this is a SAMPLE jar and mgenerally get better performance from a full sized tub. As I have sat here writing this, my skin is a bit tight but there is not tingling or odd feelings going on. A bit of Shea and I'll be good for the day. The scent has lingered and as dried down to the way it smelled In The tub only now I can pick out the individual notes better. Sandalwood is in the front backed by the rose and it's awesome. I would use a EDP of this scent.

My method for the week. I take a sample of soap from the container using new coffee sticks to,keep things acceptable for the next guy. I smear that into a bowl. I load the brush from the bowl and take it to my face to lather. I'll use this Razorock plissoft brush for the week and will use the Gillette new and a Polsilver blade for every shave to remove variables.

My water is hard. My lathering skills are good. I own many of the top tier soaps to base my assessments on. Let the fun begin!

as I Sit here at my desk, the Somali Rose continues to linger and man does it smell nice! Might have to try Lisa's again with more soap to see if I can up the slickness. I'll use a different scent so the next guy can try Somali. My gosh it smells great.

I never judge too harshly a soap, taken from a sample. When loading for a tub I load until it's "right". On a sample I have to pull out what I "think" I'll need, often leading to a soap not performing up to snuff. And yes, with you and others I respect stating that Lisa's is top shelf I am not ready to throw in the towel quite yet. Many of her scents don't fit me but isn't that the case with most soap lines? That Somali Rose though.....mmmmm.

I’m with you. I can’t throw a soap under the bus until I am able to load off a full tub. I mainly used this passaround for scents alone. I detest lathering/Loading in a bowl. Most of my brushes are 28mm badgers.

Nope, I don't grow so fast I need a twice-a-day shave. I live with a woman who likes wet shaving almost as much as me. She chose Sudsy Soaperys Twice Mint and brethren, I knew she would. Anything mint is for this girl. She let me make the lather because I wanted to see what it would do. The lather was quick and voluminous sort of like a de Candre or an Italian softy. Scent is peppermint and spearmint and very nice especially if you like mint. She reported plenty of slickness and perhaps a tad too much cushion but I suspect she makes her lathers thinned out and doesn't rinse the razor often enough. I felt her leg and slickness is not an issue with this offering. She noticed no issues during or post shave.
