I currently own the Merkur 37c as my only slant razor and it's great for me when I put a generally less sharp blade (derby, shark) to take down a 1 week+ beard and it leaves me almost bbs. It's generally something I wouldn't use as a daily however. I'm curious on those who've used the ikon 102 slant, I've heard many good things about it. I'm thinking about buying but I don't want to have too many razors.

In your opinion do you think the 102 slant is much superior to the 37c or am I fine sticking with my 37c?

Thanks gents

I had the 102 in the past, and I also have the 37C along with Razorock German Slant head (which is a copy of 37C). I prefer the 37C over 102. If you are happy with 37C, and aren't looking for variety in your den, I don't see why you would need a 102.

I am guessing you saw some article/blog/thread in some forum/website where 37C is mentioned to be inferior to the 102. While a lot of people prefer the 102, I am sure you will find a lot who prefers the 37c as well.

Now, I haven’t used the 37C, but I used to have a 102. I would probably not try to take down a week’s growth with the 102, as I found it to be extremely mild. However, if you wanted a slant suited for daily use, it sounds like the 102 could possibly suit you well. (I found it too mild in general, but as you know, many shavers enjoy it a lot.)
Whenever I go to shave, I assume there’s someone else on the planet shaving, so I say “I’m gonna go shave, too.”

I have both the RazoRock German 37 and the iKon Shavecraft 102 and I personally prefer the 37. However, I also like the 102 and agree that it is milder, but effective and well suited for daily shaving.

ATT S1 for me if you wanna talk slants. I have tried (and own) the 39C and 102, but have never tried the 37C.

iKon 102 is milder than 37c, and a great "daily driver". But the 37c is better suited to mow down a few days worth of growth. I sold mine 102 and that's one of few things I regret when it comes to shaving.

I don't have the merkur 37C so i can't compare, however, the ikon 102 is a comfortable yet efficient razor. I use it with a Feather blade. I got one for my son and he likes it but he says it sometimes plugs up. I've also read on leisure guy's blog that he's had several people tell him the same thing. I was puzzled by this so I asked my son about his experience with the razor. He's a young man, 23 and he will often let his beard go a week before shaving. That coupled with the fact that his beard hasn't fully come in yet so he will have some longer, softer whiskers. I believe its that situation that plugs the razor because, if you look at the 102 there isn't a lot of space for clearing whiskers out. Based on that I'd say the 102 couldn't be a good choice for you if you want to take down several days' growth. If you want it as a daily shaver, its excellent in my opinion.

Hi EFDan , do you have the open comb or the safety bar version? How would you rank it for aggressiveness? I've been eying that razor for some time now but.....

I believe the S1 is the safety bar and S2 is the open comb. Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

Not much more to add. For daily saves the 102 is better IMO.
