What do you guys use for shims? I'd like to see if I can turn my MJ90 from a wallflower into a razor.

The shims used are usually old DE blades with the edges trimmed off of the blade. Good luck and be careful!

A regular pair of scissors should work for trimming the edges off a DE blade. Then just place the shim under the actual cutting blade to increase the blade gap. Each shim made from a DE blade should increase the gap by about 0.1 mm, depending slightly on the brand of blade used to make the shim.

(Also something to note: If the shim is left wide, there is the slight chance that the edge of the shim could be felt during the shave. On the other hand, if the shim is very narrow, it could very slightly effect the angle of the actual blade inside the razor head. Thankfully, it’s quite easy and inexpensive to experiment in this particular case.)
Whenever I go to shave, I assume there’s someone else on the planet shaving, so I say “I’m gonna go shave, too.”
