I'm wondering if these SHD knots are from some different variety of Badger? I have a lot of brushes made from the Chinese Hog Badger, and some from the European Badger, but the hair in these SHD knots doesn't feel like either of those. Does anyone know what these are made from?

Someone on FB speculated they were goat, which if goat feels like that, I'm gonna start shearing them...haha...

Seriously, anyone have any ideas?

It's badger hair. The tips are heavily bleached to create the gel feeling. It's def not goat hair. I've used a goat brush before and it was literally the worst brush I've ever used. Nothing like an SHD at all.

Now I really want to try a goat hair brush just to see how bad it is Smile

I think Ruds has a video where he uses the exact brush that I did. It has zero backbone, pokey hairs, and it got tangled like nobody's business. Just really bad in every way. But like you, I was curious so I just had to try it, lol.

Haha, well I'm glad that has been eliminated! I live where there are literally thousands of goats within just a few miles and I was getting visions of grandeur...lol

So the hairs are processed differently...makes sense. I really like them so far, even better than some of the early batch Declaration Brushes in my den. I got a handle from Rob Moffet and stuck one of the Maggard 26mm SHD knots in it and man, what a brush! I even sent Brad a note telling him how much I loved it...Maybe I went a bit coo coo, but It's likely the best knot in the den ATM, and I have Rooney, M&F, Leonidham, Shavemac, Thater, Black Eagle HT1, Simpson and Declaration.

Are the SHD and the TIP knots from Turn and Shave the same thing? Seems like there’s a lot of high density gel tip knots to choose from these days.
