Recently, a gent on this forum opined that he doesn't like the idea of watching other men shave and finds it weird. I understand. To many, making shaving a hobby is weird. To those of us who love to shave, it's a brilliant way of turning what was a universally-reviled daily chore into a daily pleasure.

There is something fascinating about watching a man shave. The skill and care involved, the transformation from whiskered to smooth, the use of the products, etc. When I watch a good shaving video, I'm five again and standing at the sink watching my dad.

But I also learn a lot. Thanks to Paul H, for example, every time I shave I hear his voice saying "No pressure!" Thanks to Lyn Abrams and Anthony Esposito, I learned to shave with a straight razor. Thanks to Kevy and others, I've almost mastered bowl lathering. I've learned not to recap soaps right after use but to let them air dry.

And I learn about new products. New balms, new razors, blades I haven't tried; etc.

None of this will persuade my girlfriend that I'm not a weirdo for watching men shave on camera. She'll never understand. She doesn't have to.

Bottom line:  if you like watching shave videos, go ahead. If you think it's weird, there's CNBC.

I make videos and watch videos. I primarily watch to hear about competitor products or hardware I'm curious about. I'm really weird. I sometimes watch/listen to shaving videos while I'm shaving.

Watch some occasionally but mainly for the review of a soap or razor

My dad never taught me how to wet-shave. He just handed me an electric razor and left me be.

In this day in age, from cooking to shaving, YouTube vids are great for learning.
