100 grams is pretty good razor weight. I was expecting so much higher, since you have too many parts on this razor.

The razor is not solid on the inside. Reducing the length and the overall OD helped to bring down the weight even though the wall thicknesses are a tad higher in the Janus than in the Vintage toggle.

Good evening Eric,
According to your update in the newsletter, it states that the final rendition will be of 316 SS non-passivated, which of course is not a big concern in terms of corrosion resistance as there is only a minimal amount of chlorine in tap water. But, in being non-passivated it does bring up a situation in terms of warranty on parts and manufacturing/assembly procedures. Since there will not be a chrome oxide layer via passivation in immersing the 316 SS alloy in Nitric or Citric acid, there is a potential although small in corrosion wear and potential failure in a part or component. Hardness of water varies from region to region and as such there can be particles in the water, iron being one of them that can cause the slightest of scratches on a component thus giving way for possible failure. I guess what I’m asking is, will there be a warranty on parts and components or the razor as a whole? And if there is will it only cover manufacturing errors? Since this will be a limited run for the time being, how long will the warranty run for? Would we have to register the razor through your website or another party that would deal with warranty claims? I only ask because I’m potentially looking at this razor as an heirloom piece and just want to know if there are any fall back procedures in place if a problem with the razor should arise.

I plan on offering a 2 yr warranty limited to defective workmanship and/or materials. This won't cover abuse such as dropping or folks trying to disassemble the razor. No need to register since on the handbook that comes with the razor, I sign the date when the Janus ships to a customer. So if the original owner sells to someone else after a couple months, I will still honor the warranty as I'm OK with the warranty transferring to a new owner if it is still within the 2 yr window. I'm adding a hidden mark on the razor so that I don't get copies being sent to me for a warranty claim. So the limited warranty will run for 2 years (+ a week for transit to the customer).

For those not on my newsletter update, here a word on the schedule.

This is a pre-order with a ~5 month wait in addition to being on the spendy side at $500. This schedule accounts for time to double check the parts, and to produce one part number at a time.

In the final design, the blade exposure at each setting is as shown below. The blade gap range is from 0.022"(.56mm) at Setting 1 to .046"(1.17mm) at Setting 9.

Did the lube port or whatever it's called get eliminated? If not, will the razor come with the Allen wrench to remove the setscrew?

It will be mirror finished? I know the picture is a CAD rendering and not a photo as some have indicated.

James I can’t comment on the lube port as that’s a question for Eric but I know based on a conversation we had yesterday that yes the razor will have a mirror finish on it as I’ve asked the question myself more than once and yesterday to confirm it.

I’d like to hear about the lube port myself now that you’ve asked the question.

The lube port is gone. After talking to folks at the Maggard Meet, I realized I can request experienced shavers like Dragonsbeard to do a write-up or video on how to keep the Janus in tip-top shape. This is inline with what they are passionate about - educating and sharing knowledge.

I haven't received any message about the image being misleading. I clearly shared it is a render, and why I like going through the rendering process..."Even though the actual product might be a shade off from the render, I like going through this process. For me, it is like beginning with the end in mind…how is the product gonna look like when it is manufactured?" Please, help me understand where you thought I might have been misleading or confusing. 

One thing that might have been lost in the messages is that this limited edition is not PVD coated. Instead, it is polished.
