Don't forget the Red dot Eric! I think I can safely say myself and everyone I know that wants one would like to see that if possible.. or at least a Blue Dot LOL!

Things are still chugging along with the Janus Razor. I took some days off from thinking about the Janus Razor. I had been at it for ~2 years. Stepping back for a couple days allowed me to see things with a fresh set of eyes + incorporate the feedback I got from the Maggard meet + revisit this thread that Dragonsbeard started from the beginning.

I had an awesome brainstorming session with the machine shop early last week - pen to paper type stuff without even looking at screens. We are meeting one more time next week to review the design changes I made from the ideas we came up.

And then the machine shop will requote with timelines for each part so that I can put together a legit schedule. Timeline is just as important as the cost. Most of the feedback I got from the Kickstarter project & the Maggard meet was on price and the wait time. Rightfully so we (me + machine shop) are spending lots of time revisiting those two points. I’m working with a small machine shop in Minnesota and turnaround on ‘paperwork’ aka quotes isn’t as fast as it is with the bigger shops. We are working on the prototypes rework plan & the small uber custom batch of ~50. This shop has been awesome to me, I get along well with this creative gang, and we’ve learnt a ton from the prototype run under our belt. I’m super loyal to them for accommodating me on a small initial run of the ~50 & them agreeing on small production runs here and there. Most shops won’t touch a complex project with crazy low volumes. We also share the same values on how we create.

I will share more when I have more details/facts at the end of the week. I owe the Kickstarter supporters who all signed up for the small batch effort an update every month. I will post a brief update here as well. So, at the very least a monthly update as I get the facts and process the info I’m getting.

My speed is partially dictated by the machine shop. We are small but complexity doesn’t bother us. The 1st plan is for a small batch of ~50 first to cover the Kickstarter supporters + a few for family & friends who were on board even though it doesn’t show on Kickstarter #s.  I’m turning around the design changes fast; I love design, and this doesn’t feel like work for me. Those of who have followed the project for months, especially those with a manufacturing background, know complexity has never bothered me and I move stuff forward. Things are still chugging along. Not as fast as I would want but once I’m through the front-end stuff, speed should pick up considerably. I think most folks will be stoked about the changes.
I'll take one of the 50, if there is a spare.

Thanks for the reply, I'm excited for you Eric.

Put me down for one as well. Excited to see the changes, maybe even try the new prototype at some point. Only the future will tell.

I'm assuming that ~75% of the Kickstarter backers will purchase, so there should be some available units. We came up with a bunch of ideas on how to make these units uber custom without making things more expensive. The machine shop has to take a second look at the changes, be comfortable with them and give me a thumbs up. When the shop is comfortable, then I have more confidence in what I'm communicating.
Nice. I look forward to ordering mine then. I'll shoot you a PM with contact info.

I wanna wish everyone a splendid 4th! Stay cool!

I also wanna share an update on the Janus Razor since I have tweaked some aspects of the design. Since all the prototype testers to date like the shaving performance, I didn't change the razor head parameters responsible for that.  The changes I made, like reduced weight and reduced overall dimensions, will not only improve the user experience, but also help from a manufacturing perspective. I'm especially happy about the changes to the toggle knob.

Compare the old specs to the new specs

The machine shop is requoting since I'm using smaller OD ground bar stock than what the previous design was calling + the changes on the outside prompted some changes on the inside. Folks who have seen the changes haven't mentioned anything they are hesitant about. I feel good about these changes.

I asked the machine shop for a reasonably accurate timeline on the quotes so that I can come up with a reasonable accurate project schedule. This will take a little time. I know this because we went through this before when I was putting together the Kickstarter Timeline. I will share the list of surface changes to make the small batch unique and how to proceed forward in a July update.

I 'm very happy about the changes overall, and especially in the toggle knob. I think it is better looking than the old knob.
