To save any confusion, I have moved on and I've drawn a line under the whole saga. However if people are still posting on the thread I'm happy to contribute or give my opinion to the views expressed on it. If in doing so the thread remains relevant then the more people can learn of this vendor and hopefully spare themselves the experience I had.

Received my Rustic Chubby brush today from Gustavo. In my case the delay with shipping the brush was only seven days, which is not too bad. The brush looked good out of the box. The knot is of the same great quality. The handle is very light (briar). The moment I started cleaning the knot, the upper part of the handle started loosing color. After I finished cleaning and initial de-funking it was no longer black, but grey, which is disappointing. I will wait until the brush is dry and treat the handle with Tung oil. While the brush is of a relatively good quality, the overall experience is less than satisfactory.

Am I going to keep the brush? Probably yes. For EUR114 it is a reasonably good deal.
Am I going to buy another brush from Gustavo? Absolutely not.

The same thing happened to my Rustic Barber, the black dye immediately ran off when in contact with water. After a few uses as I've documented previously the finish on the Briar bottom part of the handle began flaking off so you might as well treat the whole brush while you are at it to guard against what happened to me happening to you. Hopefully it will be fine though, enjoy!

I had to go full on 3 coats of waterproof yacht varnish but my brush was in a pretty bad way.

Received my brush Friday. The box is really cheap one-piece folding-flap type, not like the nicer two-piece boxes in the past.
Knot doesn't have white tips, but more tan. Only time will tell if the wood finish lasts.

You could use a mix of 50/50 white spirit and yacht varnish and try and get away with one coat so as not to get that shiny varnish effect. Maybe a deep penetrating oil like tung oil could do the trick to stop the loss of finish or better still the brush maker can do all this before he sells it so the customer doesn't have to do half his job for him while paying for the privilege

I thoroughly washed the pigment off until the upper part of the handle looked pale grey. I then applied a few coats of tung oil and it looks black again.
