What’s the difference between tumbled and brushed finish?

I only know of these finishes: matte finish ( sand and glass blasted) brushed ( making rough finish with the latte/mill), polished ( bench grinder polishing), vibratory finish ( AKA polished version without messing up with any geometry of the razor, Razorock does this with their razors. Its cheaper and the polished finish looks very good alike industrial look because besides being polished and shining it also has like a tint of smoky effect to it, very nice outcome)

I have no clue whats tumbled...

Tumbling is kind of like putting the parts in a clothes dryer with some sand and turning it on. Imagine the effect of shells and coral tumbling in the surf at a sandy beach. Vibratory finishing is kind of like putting a bowling ball in a top loading washing machine, closing the lid, putting the parts in a bucket of sand on top of the washing machine, and turning it on. Imagine a bunch of ants using tiny orbital sanders. Tumbling tends to round off the parts a little more (if run long enough). I have heard vibratory finishing called tumbling too though.

On cast parts, a matte finish can be produced by using acid to slightly etch the surface of the mold. Unlike media-blasting, it does not actually remove any material from the finished part, but it is used for similar reasons.

Matte and brushed finishes take advantage of the fact that vision is very focused (so to speak) on change. Breaking up the hard edges into many smaller edges and adding a lot of distracting detail makes stuff harder to see (as illustrated by camouflage patterns and Where's Waldo?). It isn't always necessary to completely remove witness marks if you can make them indistinguishable from the background.

Texture also reduces reflection. Reflections of something familiar (like your face) make it very easy to see flaws in the reflecting surface.

So, to circle back around to the topic, a mirror finish, besides being more work, is very unforgiving of even the slightest manufacturing (or handling) marks. Textured finishes are by nature very forgiving of manufacturing marks. However, it is much more difficult to repair a textured finish.

I prefer the way it is currently machined

I like all of the changes described/pictured except for preferring the original machined finish, but there is no finish choice that will please everyone. The original design did not appeal to me enough, but the changes for manufacturability/yield also made it a better design IMHO, and the group buy pushed me over the edge. Now I just have to wait for it to arrive!!!

Is this really an option?

I agree, I prefer the way the razor looks now and the improvements that were implemented. I have had my eye on this razor since before it was released but when I was about to pull the trigger on one all the issues were coming to light so I held off buying one.

It has not been offered as an option that I’m aware of.

I guess razor finish is pretty much YMMW same as blades, I personally prefer razor with the rough finish ( sand or glass blasted, machined finish) vs the polished finish. When I compare the Hawk SS and the Ti BBS vs the Mamba and Wunderbar I preffer the BBS and HAWK looks wise

I don't know, a lot of people seem to like the Karve razor. Although it is brass, so slightly different animal. It can also be polished so if you don't like the satin finish, that's always an option.

Once you plate you can’t change the shine through polishing. You just strip the metal off. Plating Finish (mirror satin brushed ) is a direct result of polishing work. We’ve done satin gold and it’s not pretty. Looks like dull mustard. The karve razor is solid brass and media blasted. You can polish it all you want because it’s a solid metal.
