Just got this razor in today. I pre ordered it back in April for my wife as she loved the Fatboy so much I thought this would be great for her. She used it today on a setting 3 and told me it was a nice comfortable shave, I believe her as she has tried other razors of mine in the past that she didn't particularly care for and would let me know after her shave was over. So I get home from work today and gave it a go. I had to see for myself of course.

I went straight for the setting 6 as I had 3 days growth and I have rather coarse hair. First stroke: I can feel the blade (Bolzano) as I drag the razor down my neck and it feels absolutely wonderful. As I continued my shave I felt more and more comfortable handling the razor. The grip on it is awesome, there is certainly no feeling of slippage from your fingers that's for sure. I don't know what I would compare the razor to in terms of aggressiveness in setting six but I wouldn't recommend it for anyone with sensitive skin. When I finished my shave there was absolutely no irritation and not a single weeper, dare I say it even shaved closer than my Muhle R41. I cannot explain how amazed I was by how this guy performed. On performance alone I would give it a 10

My only complaint is the finish on the razor. The polishing could use work as you can certainly see quite a bit of imperfections on the cap and the bars of the razor. For the price, I would certainly expect more on the finish. The imperfections look as if you poked it with a needle and left tiny little flea bite indentations and the top cap shows signs of the machining process. Also, some uneven areas around the edges of the cap due to the polishing as well. If you're picky of the finish on your razors I wouldn't recommend this for you because it is not perfect in this area. But.... if you want a great shaver that could possibly replace all others without having to worry about it taking a beating and lasting you a lifetime, then you got yourself an amazing daily driver.

I mentioned in another thread that I shaved with mine this morning for the first time and had a great shave. Used 3 and 5 (out of 6 adjustment levels). I like the "machined" look, as I have a Blackbird that is unpolished and love it. Had some trouble getting the blade (Astra) onto the cap--the bars were ever-so-slightly too big for the blade to just settle on them, so I had to push the blade on. Then had to kind of pry them off after the shave. So I'll see if that's a consistent problem, or only with this particular blade (or brand of blades). Nice grip with the handle. I like longer handles, but this looks exactly the same length as a Fatboy.

I'm glad to hear that the shave was impeccable (which is really what matters most), but for that much coin, I would expect the razor to have a flawless finish.

My thoughts exactly.

I came here to say this very thing. I am happy to hear that you had a great shave. This is a razor I would consider as a birthday or promotion gift, but with imperfections like these wonderfully photographed ones, I am very deterred from making a purchase myself. Especially considering the price.

Thank you for the review and pics, its a good looking razor but for the price of $210 with future price of $250 the finish should not look like that and also other people mentioned besides the finishing problem there was a problem of closing the razor from 1st go with the blade, I think they said the tabs didn't aligned good so they had to fiddle a bit. All of this is fine if the razor was around 150 price range but not for 210-250...

Was going to order one and take advantage of the still available discount but for now I will have to back off, thanks for the honest review.

I don't know, everybody's different and has different tastes and standards, but I see the razor as it is in the OP's first picture above (which is a great shot, BTW). It looks beautiful. If you get the loupe out, yeah, you will find some imperfections, but I sometimes think we are seeking perfection. IIRC, it cost me $211 out the door, which surely ain't cheap, but I've spent a lot more on other shaving gear   Cool I did think the adjustment mechanism worked perfectly. But then again, I've only used it once!

yeah, the shave was excellent but I would be a bit hesitant on it myself based on the finish imperfections alone, had I not already purchased it LOL. But I will say based on the shave alone I don't regret it. I think the only thing that sucks is that I know this will be fixed in the future and I'm gonna be stuck with the "Prototype" appearance version while everyone else is getting their gem quality finished REX razors later.

Thanks for the kind words my friend. I didn't have any issues with setting the blade or the adjustment considering it was my first go with it either, which was a good sign from the get go. I believe you are right in saying that we shouldn't expect perfection but with all the competition out there the level is set high.
