Is this the first Matte finish razor to produce a drag ?

How about the experience of ATT and Timeless / Rockwell / Karve / Blackbird bead blasted / machine finished versions ? Or the chrome polish and matte finish Merkur futur or similar razors.

Can someone share their experience or is this drag unique to the Rex Ambassador.

I've got mine delivered but don't get it in my hands for a next few weeks as I am traveling !

I got mine yesterday, just in time for Father’s Day Smile. I think this update in design is much smoother looking overall, especially the cut outs in the base plate. My only gripe is the top row of knurling on mine was machined very thin and reminds me of a star washer.  Performance wise it does not affect but it’s just not the nose visually appealing aspect. I think I may just take it off with a dremell tool. Other than that it appears perfect.  Thanks for the great deal Matt!  [Image: zO3YojE.jpg]

mine is about the same too, probably the machinist was trying to run lots of them and he skipped on paying attention on that part, can happen when someone is overwhelmed with work

Very understandable. Just me being too picky I think Smile

For the maiden shave I set the razor to three.  For some reason, I was quite careless today, but the Rex didn't seem to mind and offered a smooth, comfortable shave regardless.

Very nice razor.   Well done, Matt. Thank you.

My top row is similar, but not quite as extreme. I did go to Razor Emporium web site and the pics there show that the top row should be just about the same width as the other rows. As with all things in the shaving community - "does not affect the shave".

I have not experienced any of the problems some of you are having so perhaps I was lucky.  Glide, for me, is outstanding, really smooth as silk.  Also, the knurling on my razor seems to be perfect from top to bottom (I checked after I saw ppfingsten's photo).  The balance on the razor and the length of the handle are very much to my liking and, admittedly, after only one shave, I'm smitten with the Rex Ambassador.  Here is what I wrote to Matt of Razor Emporium:

I’d just like you to know that I had my first shave with the Rex Ambassador about an hour and a half ago and all I can say is, where did you find the magic elixir for this incredible piece of kit!  I have been disappointed in one or two expensive (for me) brushes that I purchased and felt they were overhyped and so, have stayed away from spending $100.00+ for a razor.  I am so happy I took a chance on the Rex.  Every positive thing that others have written is true, and then some.  Speaking for myself, the weight and balance are perfect.  I didn't even have to find a good shaving angle; it was just there.  While handle length is completely subjective, I happen to like both long and short; it just depends on my mood.  Somehow, the handle on the Rex is pure Goldilocks, not too long or too short and yet I can feel that middle ground for a lovely change of pace.  I decided to start on 3, instead of 4 as I originally stated, and I never had to switch it up.  I got a beautiful irritation free BBS shave with no cuts, nicks, or weepers and it doesn’t get any better than that.  You have definitely made a product to be proud of.

Freddy, you have eloquently stated my exact sentiments on this razor! I shaved close to five hours ago and am marveled at the closeness and smoothness of the shave. i used the #3 setting as well and went with a 4th use GSB. Three passes and some touch-up resulted in a very close/very comfortable BBS shave

One of the main reasons I'm loving this razor is how it performed on the ATG pass on the upper lip. The Rex did a marvelous job...very smooth strokes with no drag. I was even able to do buffing strokes on the middle part of the upper lip.

Got mine on Thursday. Just had shave number 2. Both times with GSBs set at 3. What an amazing razor. I love the weight. Super smooth shave. I was able to get a 2 pass BBS shave both times. Couple of weepers both times but still amazingly smooth. I’m a vintage Gillette guy at heart, but this may convert me. It is the nicest shaving modern razor I’ve tried. I may be putting the rest of my modern razors up for sale Wink. Well done Matt.
