Hi guys,

Does anyone here have both the Mamba and a Super Speed in their collection? I'm interested in how they compare, especially in terms of aggressiveness (or lack of, in this case!).

I prefer mild razors and rotate my Super Speeds with my other vintage Gillettes, and am thinking of trading my Parker Variant for a Mamba.

Thanks!

If you like mild razors, then the Mamba would be a perfect candidate.
I haven't used a Superspeed in quite a few years, but the Mamba is very comparable, but much smoother.
Best of luck.

I no longer have any Super Speeds, but if my memory is accurate, I'd say the Mamba is most like the Blue Tip. As Celestino said, it is very mild and smooth. In my rotation it is quite similar to the Feather AS-D2 and the Level 1 Charcoal Goods.

My two main razors right now are the Mamba with a Bic blade and a Variant with a Bic or Personna Red blade. I will often use both razors during the same shave.

The Mamba is somewhere around the bottom of the Variant’s range. It’s hard to say exactly because they feel very different. I think it is probably milder than the Variant on 1, but also more efficient.

The Mamba is very, very smooth. My favorite blade for it by far is the Bic, which is very sharp. Ride the cap, tilting it until you just begin to get a little subtle feedback, and let it glide. It may not feel like you’re accomplishing much, but the stubble disappears. If you are getting a lot of feedback, the angle is too steep and/or the blade could be sharper.

The Variant, of course, provides a lot of feedback. I use it on 1 to 1.5 with a Bic or 1.5 to 3 with a Personna.

My standard for mild razors is the pre-war tech. I have a Milord and had a Mamba. I like the tech better than both and sold the mamba.

I think the Gillette SS have a tad bit more bite than the Mamba, but the Mamba is a the smoothest operator I ever used, not a razor if you constantly chasing for BBS but the best DFS razor for sure, its nicks and cuts proof

Out of curiosity, has anyone ever used the Mamba and Ikon 101? I am just curious how they might compare one to another.

I have those three.  The pre war Canadian Tech, with the triangular slots, is an exceptional razor.

I had my first shave with the Mamba yesterday and I think the Tech works better for me as well, but I will give it a few more tries before I make a final conclusion.
