Razor Acquisition Disorder

I began with a MERKUR HD bought from a long closed vendor who wanted me to join his church and pyramid sales team. This was before the BIG BANG in shaving that has given us a Carl Sagan selection of stellar product. This was followed by a Edwin Jaeger, Merkur 1904, Merkur Slant, Mergress, Parker and ATT
opencombs and a first generation SEYGUS. A British friend kindly let me shave with his grandfather's DARWIN; a most beautiful and utterly unremarkable shaver. My friend Danielle gifted a French Lareshe inherited from her grandfather. We speak French to each other, her BF was afraid to even touch it and after gifting a rare French edition of CANDIDE it came by way of reciprocity. I have it safely hidden away for now. All this, and I returned to that MERKUR HD recently. The original is being used by my nephew. Everything else went to homeless veterans. In my case ' If it works, don't fix it ' could apply, except I just saw Doug's email on that German slant in aluminum anodized bronze or black looking like a Wiemar republic artwork banned by the failed artist who brought us WW2 and my father's nemesis Werner Von Braun. Not if you like aggressive razors. I just wrapped up my turn in a passaround, and as much as I wanted to like this razor, I just couldn't. Not enough aggression, even with the 6 plate and a Feather.

As to the original question.
-I no longer buy anything Zamack. I'll keep my R41, Progress, and Futur, but not buying anything else that won't have true longevity.
-I know i like aggressive, so anything that isn't at least as aggressive as a Slim on 9 doesn't even get consideration.
-I know my sweet spot for handle length is around 3". Anything longer than 85mm is automatically out.
-I only buy when I have the cash in hand and budgeted for the purpose
-I only buy when I see a really good deal. I waited about 2 years to finally pick up my PAL adjustable (today). And I waited about 9 months to pick up my ATT H1 Atlas during the Bullgoose closeout. I even made it past the first set of drops there (luckily) since they dropped even further after a month or so.

I agree with much of this. I have a Rockwell 6S, which I have used only with the #6 baseplate, and pleasant as it is, it's not one of my closer shaves. I have two R41 2011 razors, because I don't trust the Zamak to last on either one--I needed a backup--and I'll never buy another Zamak razor. My Slim at 9 does not give me a close shave, and I don't use it anymore (although I keep it because it's a beautiful Delta Echo). Handle length, and your other factors, mean less to me, but cost is always important.
