I am lucky enough to own a 17-4, but have no experience with Wolfman. For those of you with both razors, which do you prefer and why?

I owned two Wolfman’s (.61 & .74) and don’t think your missing anything. The Wolfman shaves were good just not smooth enough for me. Angle of attack was too narrow.

Wonderful art pieces but I never liked them all that much as shavers.

The 17-4 stainless is in a totally different league. Smooth and extremely efficient. Makes shaving fun and easier.

I have the .74 blade gap Wolfman open comb and the 17-4. The 17-4 gives me a closer shave, and is almost as well built and beautiful. There’s nothing like the Wolfman in terms of sheer beauty (except the Charcoal Goods open comb in antique brass), but the 17-4 is a better shave (for me).

I have a .67 OC and .74 OC Wolfman Razors, as well as a .74 SB Wolfman. To me the Wolfman’s fit and finish are just a touch nicer than the Paradigm, although the threading on the 17-4 feels every bit as nice as the Wolfman. Personally I get a more efficient and smoother shave with the Paradigm 17-4 than I do the Wolfman Razors. I’m happy to have all of them in my lineup, but I use the 17-4 most often. Hope this helps.

I have had Wolfman Razors in minimum, standard, and maximum blade gaps and none come close to the smoothness of the Paradigm 17-4. James/Wolfman definitely makes a beautiful product but with the very limited nature of his razors, I have not found a blade gap that clicked with my shaving needs. I hope to one day.

I have a SS .61 duel comb and Titanium .74 duel comb Wolfman they are beautifully finished pieces of art and shave very well. The paradigm is nearly as beautiful but not quite the polish of a Wolfman. Shave wise, the Paradigm feels the smoothest and it’s efficiency is on par with the .74 OC side.

Have a pair of Wolfmans open and SB and the 17-4. The fit and finish for all listed razors is excellent, so no comment from me on that note. Shavewise (for me) the 17-4 wins hands down. In many forums this talk would be considered blasphemy, but here, the Wolfman is just another razor. Get both if you can but the 17-4 is easier to get and is just as good if not a better shave (in my most humble opinion).

You didn’t ask but I will offer up the R41, Gillette Toggle, Blackland are all in that elite “great shave” category.

I wouldn’t say the 17-4 is easier to get as the initial batch is sold out and I have only seen one or two offered for trade unless private deals are taking place.

You may have a point only time will tell. Wolfman Razors typically sell out in minutes after a Twitter Post. The initial batch of 17-4s sold over several weeks...

Weeks vs. Minutes..

The manufacturer of of the 17-4 is now a merchant on DFS and responds in pretty short order to questions.

I don’t feel that’s a fair comparison. This was the first batch ever released by a small, relatively anonymous company. Give it time and they will sell quickly.

I’m hoping I’ll be able to get the new SE In time when it’s released. It seems that folks with computer skills are always better suited at online puchasing when time and screen refreshing is on the line....
