mershaving’s supplier is a duck farm in stockton, california.
I guess I don't understand the logistics.  I assume that a batch of 50 tubs of duck tallow soap uses 12-15 lbs of tallow (guessing) and that the tallow is a by product of producing ducks for food.  I'm also assuming that duck farmers only raise as many ducks as they can sell and that they haven't been throwing away any tallow - the duck fat would also have been sold into the food/restaurant sector.  So now we have a few artisans using duck tallow that were't before so the demand for the product increases - but only for the tallow not for the meat.  So I would expect that duck meat prices should drop but tallow prices increase.  I have no idea the size of the duck industry and whether the incremental demand for tallow from artisans is even material.  But I have to think that Chinese ducks are involved in some way.  Just like Chinese badgers.
Interesting point. I wonder if there is leftover duck tallow that's been stored after meat is used and the people with the stash are thinking 'We've hit the jackpot!'
Although I think the amount being used is probably a lot less, 50 four-ounce tubs is probably only 50-75 ounces (3-5 pounds) of tallow depending on how much the producer uses in their formula. I was looking at the Oleo formula and duck tallow seems to be in the middle of their ingredient list, so assuming they're following the US labeling requirements I don't think they could be using more than 1 ounce per tub if I'm thinking about this correctly?

I received my tub of Rougere yesterday. I was hoping that it would have been a duplicate of Pen's Opus 1870 (fougere with woody rose) but it's not.
Close enough though. I don't think anyone has been able to accurately clone Opus yet.
Using it this morning, I have great expectations.

I agree with Erik’s statement above. These duck fat soaps are fantastic. Performance wise Oleo sits right alongside the other top 1-3 soaps being made today. Great soaps!

Secretary Ramsey put his foot into it yesterday . . . in the course of his remarks he said that California “needs water and better society.”  “So does h-ll,” yelled someone in the crowd.

Yesterday I was on the site and everything was available. Today it’s all sold out. Is this another artisan like GD or Bufflehead that sells out quickly after release?

That's odd. Something must be going on with the website. When I ordered a couple days ago they had plenty of everything in stock. I find it strange that it would all be sold out now.

Everything on their site reads sold out...not just shaving soaps. Luckily...I ordered some samples late last night...no problem...confirmed as shipped today...
