So I switched from cartridge style razors and canned foam about 9 months ago and I have certainly enjoyed not getting the ingrown hairs and irritation I was accustomed to.

I am thinking about adding another DE razor to my collection and I was curious what the collective thoughts were. I currently own a EJ 89 and typically use Gillete Platinum blades and make just two passes WTG XTG. I like the shave I am getting, but figure maybe I could add something that is slightly more aggressive. I've used various blades including feathers, but I've settled into the platinum.

Thanks for your comments.

Much too many to try, but you could always start with an adjustable such as the Merkur Progress or the Rockwell 6 as these offer different levels of aggressiveness.
Good luck. Shy

Do you have a budget your working with? If money is no object then I would say an Above The Tie Razor with a R1 base plate. Awesome razor and would probably last a lifetime but expensive. I also have a EJ DE89 that I love and the R1 head would probably be the next step up in aggression. Along with the modern adjustables already mentioned, you could also look into some vintage Gillette Adjustables. Black Beauty, Slim, and the Fatboy are all fantastic razors. While not adjustable, the Gillette Red Tip is a great razor as well. I have all of the razors that I listed and keep them in rotation.

If you are getting irritation free and good shaves from a milder razor, you may want to stick in the mild-medium range.

+1 on the Rockwell 6s - positive reviews. Something else and different includes: brass razor (Hone), aluminum (Hone 15a), open comb and brass (Seygus), etc.

I started my journey much like you with the EJ DE89, very nice razor. For me I like efficient but not aggressive razors, the Feather AS-D2 with a Feather blade falls into that category. I also really love the Ikon #102 slant, such a nice razor. These razors work well for me but of course, YMMV and they're not the cheapest razors out there. If you watch Amazon it can be your best bet on the Feather as the price occasionally dips. A cheaper option that I just tried thats pretty nice is the PAA Double Open Comb, original version not SS or Aluminum. Its a really nice shaver. I can't comment on the SS/Al models as I haven't tried hem but they're more expensive, appear to be completely different designs and, from other DFS member's feedback, more aggressive. Good luck,
Marko
