As regards Stirling being compared to the "nouveau" artisan soaps just remember that there is a core of enthusiasts on several forums who are obsessed with the latest & greatest soaps, razors, etc., and as a result their personal opinions can be extremely biased in their quest to satiate their addiction. That's not to say that their opinions are not valued, just that they can be highly subjective. They must feed their inner "beast".  Wink

Agree completely BPman , everything in the wet shaving space is highly subjective. The only thing that matters is what you like and enjoy because after all, its your shave right?

I also happen to like Stirling soaps - I've not tried Satsuma. It sounds like something I would like although I'm concerned the orange (satsuma) scent might cause me problems. One of the very few soaps to cause me discomfort is Stirling Pharaoh's Dreamsicle which has some orange scent in it. It's unfortunate too because the scent really appealed to me. I guess we can't have everything.

There are a few brands that haven't changed since their first release and they still perform well.

I love the citrus scents....lemon, lime and orange. Stirling covers all of those bases with companion scented soap, balm and aftershave splash for each of their scents. Also they have a "bonus" of fabulous bath soaps as well. There is NO other company that does this. I love RazoRock What the Puck Orange Sunrise shave soap. Italian Barber has no companion orange scented aftershave balm or aftershave splash. I know that Castle Forbes has a lime shaving cream and balm. But they have no companion aftershave splash. David James Limoncello Soap is fantastic...but no companion aftershave anything. My gig is: When I like a scent, I want the whole meal deal. That is me. Stirling makes me happy, and their quality is good. By the way, $12.95 for their aftershave splash is a steal. Royall Mandarin, Aroma D'orange Verte, Eau D'orange Verte, Orange Cannel, Boss Orange Sunset and all of the other orange colognes and aftershaves will run $50 to $200 retail for a 3-4 oz bottle. They are all good, but expensive. The only other reasonably priced orange scent is Lucky Tiger. Yes, I have Fine Le Orange Noir, but the orange is not the top note and is masked out. I have already ordered the Stirling Satsuma (shave soap, aftershave and bath soap) and will post my opinion of this new orange scent in the future.

The best male citrus frag hands down was the vintage Eau de Rochas Pour Homme. Look for it on Ebay.

Artisans such as WhollyKaw, Grooming Department, Oleo Soapworks and a few others are leaving them in the dust unfortunately. Their bases are imo amazing.

I've read all the opinions in the thread and I have to say that I agree with you. Even though Stirling remains an excellent soap, after using things like Wholly Kaw they are clearly one step behind.

WOW !!!

And I always mistakenly thought an orange was just an orange.

What a revelation!

I like Lucky Tiger too, but you won't enjoy that lovely orange blosson scent for more than a minute or two unfortunately.

I probably would have ordered the Satsuma by now, and maybe still will, but I also have a couple of tubs of Savonnerie des Volcans lavande orange which is nearly all orange to my nose. Too bad it's gone. But orange with spice sounds great!

Cheers, Steve
