My pre-ordered Asylum 17-4 razor arrived today and it has some serious negative blade exposure.  A side-by-side with one of my original P-digm 17-4 razors shows that the head geometry of the Asylum is very different.  There is very little bevel on the safety bars of the Asylum (Reminds me of the safety bars on my Timeless bronze 38). Then I tried running my fingers across razor and there was little or no blade feel at all, even when I tried..  I’m thinking something is not right with the razor I received.  Of course I’ll have to try an actual shave, but I’ve used a lot of different razors over the last year.  It sure is looking like this razor is going to be as mild as a trip to the ice cream stand with Mr. Rogers.

Has anyone else had a gander at this particular razor yet?

Yes, it does look different, doesn’t it...  Here’s another photo, with some additional light to make the detail a little more clear.  Pictures aren’t great, but the difference is apparent:

Uh oh... One’s now been listed on the BST over at TSN (seller is citing wife’s disapproval of cost as reason for sale).  In the ad’s photo the safety bar looks like SB on my razor.  Damn, and I bought two of these razors.  “Rutroh” indeed.

That’s very odd. Phil at Bullgoose did state that it was a mild but, a deceptively efficient razor. The thing is the bevel/radius of the straight bar seems to be not aligned geometry wise, with the top cap, blade & curvature. Additionally, that safety bar extends out quite a bit from the razor blades edge. Again, looks can be deceiving and I sure do hope that it does shave well for you. It just really looks off to be honest. Look forward to your shave report....

The 17-40 being offered at TSN is already sold. The guy sold it for more then he paid for it. I guess they are not enforcing the scalping rule. I don't believe the story about his wife not approving because of the cost. Probably buyers remorse. Phil is good at promoting his merchandise. Who tested this razor? . There was no pass around. Yes the razor looks beauftiful but beauty is only skin deep. I'll stick with the Sterling SS which is much cheaper and shaves great.
