Nancy Boy is giving a 15% discount on all their stuff. I purchased some bars of bath soap, aftershave balm and solid cologne that arrived today. I had never tried a solid cologne so I thought I would give it a shot. It kicked me up to free shipping. They threw in a good size sample of shave cream. They make some quality grooming products at reasonable prices. I bought their signature shaving cream about a year and half ago, but it doesn't get used as much as it should after I switched to soaps. The sample of aftershave balm I got with that order was outstanding. The customer service is excellent. If you were ever inclined to give their products a try, this is a good time to do it.

One of, if not my favorite cream....Nancy Boy Signature. The matching balm is also excellent.

Great customer service and prices. Make sure to join their eClub to save on everyday products (and maybe the sale too).

It's a shame they don't ship to Canada any more.

Nancy Boy makes some really great stuff, and reasonably priced for its quality. The shave cream is probably their best known product, but I also tried their aftershave balm recently (Blossomwood scent) and it was nice; seemed to work well.

I actually work within walking distance of their store in San Francisco. I walk past it frequently on the way to lunch, and pop in often enough. Nice shop, and smells great (they keep it full of their "Signature" scent). They even sell a few razors (several sort of anonymous butterfly models, but also the R41 and R89) and some strangely small badger brushes. Nice to have it nearby.

I also go in there when I'm in the city. Nice creams and bath soaps. I've tried the balm but not the solid cologne. Nice products.

If I may digress, I envy you guys in San Francisco. One of the most memorable trips of my life was to that area. My wife's aunt had a wonderful house in Oakland overlooking the bay which was being rebuilt even better after the great firestorm of 1991. My wife and I, pre-children, were able to travel throughout the area visiting friends. One, a guitarist who lived in heart of the city, was able to show us the night life and restaurants. One of my fraternity brothers from my town of Blackstone, Va lived in the Napa Valley. He had gone west to study oenology, fermentation science and viticulture at UC Davis (where else would one go to study oenology, fermentation science and viticulture?). At one time, his signature could be found on all Christian Brothers wines, but he was with Fetzer at the time of our visit. I will never forget visiting vineyard tasting rooms with him. He would invariably be recognized and asked to try something (wife and I included). After tasting, he would say "That's really nice. Are you pouring anything old today?." The guy/girl would look one way and then the other, lean down behind the tasting bar, and pull out something really good. I got hammered. It just didn't seem right to me to spit out such excellent wine. Anyway, I am very proud of my friend. It is a long, long way from Blackstone, Va to the wine country of Napa Valley, and I am not just talking about the distance. He got out of wine making after 20 years or so and now is a wine and wine grape broker. He held a dinner party for us (everybody brought wine, of course - yours truly got hammered again) that included abalone. Try explaining abalone to someone from the east coast who really enjoys scallops and shellfish. They find it difficult to believe that something so large and awesome exists.

In summary, in my mind, you live in a magical place. In retrospect, that memory may have been affected by the copious amounts of wonderful alcohol I imbibed throughout the trip. When I return, I will invest in a personal spit bucket.

You most certainly may digress, if your digression is that fun to read! You know, the thing about San Francisco, it's almost always a great time to visit. Hope you make it back again soon, Tom Slick.

Great story, thanks for sharing.
San Francisco is a great city - been here for about 12 years or so...but...if i had to pick favorite city in the U.S. I'd probably go with Chicago Smile

I was just there on Thursday. I actually live in the East Bay but was in Hayes Valley for a work meeting. I had some time to kill beforehand so stopped by their store and purchased an aftershave balm and then walked over to the Ritual Coffee on Octavia to buy some beans. I had no idea solid cologne even existed until reading this post. I will have to check it out next time I am there. Thanks.

Oh man now I'm really gonna be hitting the "digress" button in this thread but, can't help it: I've been back in SF for about 16 years now, and I'm mostly a Bay Area native. I love San Francisco, and always will, but I'm not enjoying the phase it's going through right now: far too expensive, and — how to put this? — that cost is filtering out a lot of the cool, down-to-earth, interesting people and leaving a lot more of the sort of crassly affluent, vapid folks that are, well, not my kind of folks. This has markedly changed the day-to-day character of the city, and it's not the town I fell for growing up in its suburbs. So, it's time for a change.

And guess what the top city on my list is, darkbulb? Yep: Chicago! I've been twice before (both times in winter) and really liked it. Certainly more than New York. I need to go back soon for a visit, then hopefully a longer visit, and if I still like it, I'm pretty sure I'll be moving there. Maybe even this year. My wet shaving budget (as if that exists!) will hurt, though, with Merz Apothecary and Q Brothers in town.

Okay as penance for threatening the focus of this thread: as far as I know their shaving cream is what put Nancy Boy "on the map," though it remains under-appreciated in the wet shaving community overall. I don't think the Nancy Boy owners are wet shaving enthusiasts in particular, but are rather trying to create good products from skin-friendly ingredients, but they certainly did well with the cream. It can be used brushless or lathered, and while it doesn't lather quite like other shaving creams, it's certainly slick (and smells great).

Unfortunately, the sale is over.  I lucked into it while looking for some bar bath soap.  I am not a particularly "green" person, but I do like the idea of not putting any additional plastic out in the world in the form of bath detergents and shampoos.  I also like the artisan scents.  I share the bathroom with an 18 year old athlete = lots and lots of showers.   I successfully weaned him off Axe body wash.   It is an adventure; for a laugh see: http://shavenook.com/showthread.php?tid=36503

I think there is a thread on DFS about underrated shave creams.  If I find the motivation, I will nominate Nancy Boy.  That will be more entertaining than filling out the FAFSAs for Number 1 and Number 2 sons.
