The more accurate timeline is that *after* Scott adapted a vintage shape into what we know as the Jefferson, Brett began making Jeffersons for people who requested them with Scott's blessing. Once Brett began offering custom tied knots and undermining Scott's business, he was asked to cease making the Jefferson shape which was never his original creation. Clearly he has decided against that course of action.
Obviously there is no legal standing here with regard to the IP of the Jefferson shape, but I personally find that irrelevant in a discussion pertaining to two friends and business partners where one was unexpectedly slighted by the other. At the end of the day, this is not a legal issue, but an ethical one and I am personally disappointed at how Brett has conducted himself as an artisan.
Nothing more ethical than creating a FB page to bash a competitor
