I’m borrowing Bouki’s template. Thank you sir!

  • Razor – There were a lot of good razors released this year, and while I was downsizing my den early in the year, COVID may have sparked some RAD. In the end, my YatesPrecision Hybrid was likely my most used this year. A close second, the one constant from beginning to end of 2020, has been the wonderful Colonial Razors General V2.
  • Blade – Astra SPs have been my most used, but in the final months I’ve turned towards others. Gillette Blacks and London Bridges seem to be my top contenders currently. I’ve got some TatraPlatinums to try now too. Schick Prolines for SE.
  • Brush – Yaqi 26mm Space Tuxedo. I’d love to try some of the newer synthetics and want to avoid yaqi in the future. This was most used out of necessity, as my main Badger had the knot fall out and I’ve yet to repair it.
  • Soap Brand – Noble Otter. I spent much of the year trying to dig my way to the bottom of two soaps from Noble Otter. Not my best performer but I like the scents. Orbit was used nearly every shave from April to October.
  • Soap – Noble Otter Orbit. Great in the summer for both scent and cooling.

2021’s list of most used will certainly be different!

Scentsless Shaver
Oakland, ME
In 2020 I strove to enjoy what I had, and curb my impulse buying. Went okay until the last quarter! But here are my most used
Razor: Christopher Bradley razor (Karve) with the B safety bar plate.
Blade: Israeli Reds,  and in a surprise to me, very closely seconded by Gillette Nacets.
Soap: Mystic Water Soaps Sensitive Skin
Brush: SynBad 26mm by AP Shave Co.

  1. Razor – Like you, HoosierShave, I love the Rockwell. It accounted for half of my shaves in 2020. But something weird happened in July, and I started getting a lot of irritation after shaving with this razor, even with baseplate 4. Since then I've switched to the Feather AS-D2, and lately, the Henson Al13, both very mild razors that leave me unscathed.

I've experienced the irritation as well.  As a matter of fact, the 6S has actually bitten me a few times.  The issue, at least for me, was that I had put it into cruise control and was doing 30 mph over the speed limit...plus I was treating it more like a disposable than a DE razor. Those lapses in concentration and judgement were evident as soon as the alum block was applied.
I hear you! The Rockwell is so comfortable, it's easy to go to sleep at the wheel. I'm good as long as I keep it to two passes. When I start messing with the ATG pass, though, I start noticing problems. At some point this year, I'll go back to it, using a lighter touch. The Rockwell 6S gives me such a close shave, but maybe it's best when I use it only every third day or so.
