So I came across this razor and was intrigued when I found out that it’s another Canadian made razor. It’s a great time to be a shaving enthusiast, especially living in Alberta(and America with the USD is doing well). Modern shaving is a relatively new company the has two razor heads a 3 handles. The Paystreak is what drew me in with a stainless outer and brass core I believe it will get better with age. This is a beefy razor at 104 grams but not too heavy. I was unable to find much out there on this razor so I figured I’d give it a shot. Well first impressions of this razor is pretty good. First is the packaging and overall appearance. Well packaged in foam in an attractive slide out box with international instructions. The razor has a flat uniform top cap, more a brushed finish. The heads unseen parts have tool marks that are smooth. This doesn’t bother me in the slightest. Now the handle the thing that beckoned me to this razor. Solid handle the fitment Of The stainless outer over the brass core is flawless, knurled to be gripped well, I like the feel with the recesses, this might be another area where some might take issue the edges of the recessed areas are what I’d call crisp, not sharp but probably not as soft a feel as some might like.
The thing that matters the shave. Before I took the leap I emailed Modern shaving and Andrew responded quickly with details about similar razors and the Feather razor was the aim with this head. Well I must say although just a first impression with only a few shaves under my belt I have to say close and smooth describes the shaves. When I first get a razor I “test” it more than my average everyday shave so this was put through its paces. I completed a fast shave where I don’t keep constant pressure and rush I did get some irritation and weepers. But this razor if given proper respect will yield amazing results. I have a problem spot from some old scarring that very few razors deal well with and this one did it, that makes this one a keeper for me worth some more attention. The A1 isn’t going to replace my Wolfman’s, BBS1, Timeless, or Charcoal but is definitely joining them in what I consider my top razors.
