I find Mike's Barbershop to be on the sweeter side (more bergamot in my opinion) compared to other barbershop scents.  I also think it smells exactly like what seemed like the most popular cologne during my high school years, Tommy Hilfiger's Tommy Cologne. I thoroughly enjoy it.

Now that is interesting. Sounds like we're of similar age, as I fondly recall Tommy during that time period. Interesting indeed. I might have to try this out.

Same here!

On a thread related note, Maggard London Barbershop smells exactly like Mike's. The Kraken is similar too, but it also has kind of a salty sea air note to it as well.

Very interesting. When I smelled Maggards London Barbershop, I couldn't help but think that it was a dead ringer for Strop Shoppe Barbershoppe (R.I.P.)

shave went pretty well! first time using a feather as-d2 with a feather blade. I need to use it a few more times before deciding if the feather as-d2 is for me or not, but I think it'll be a keeper!

does this get the approval of Merkur Man?  This is after my first pass (I only do 1 pass on my lower neck as I have a beard):

Is the Barbershop a traditional scent? The scent profile seemed pretty much in line with what is normal for barbershop to me. However I saw someone mention they thought it smelled kind of like green Irish tweed scent.

being a younger fellow (29), I actually don't know what the traditional barbershop scent is. when I was very young, barbershops were starting to move away from straight razors shaves and such. the only scent that stands out for me from my childhood in barbershops is pinaud talc that they'd dust along your neck with their brush.

that said, Mike's take on barbershop is 100% different than Stirling's - Stirling's barbershop has the powdery scent while I don't get any of that from Mike's.

That could be Red Tipped Cobra. I don't think I've ever sniffed the Strop Shoppe version though. I've found that most "barbershop" scents either fall into the crisp, clean category ala Mike's, Maggard and the like or the powdery category such as Mystic Water or Stirling. Your nose may vary...

That is very true. I like the clean scents personally.

On another related note, I wish there were more brick and mortar stores carrying these awesome supplies in driving range from me. I am personally horrible when trying to decipher a scent profile. And they don't really make it easy when describing things sometimes in "Barbershop" or "citrus". You can get a general idea from those descriptions but as these are essentially artists, they create an example that is unique and speaks to their interpretation. It's not a bad thing most of the time, except when trying to find other scents that are close to those you love!

I'm jealous of those that live close to brick & mortar stores. I'm pretty surprised that nothing has propped up in Philadelphia yet...

I've been surprised by the absence of a brick and mortar store in Philadelphia myself. Seems like an excellent location for one if you ask me, somewhere right around Rittenhouse square would be perfect in my opinion.

do you come down this way often?

maybe I'll have to put in some leg work to see if I can find someone to start selling wet shaving goodies...it'll be for my own benefit! Smile
