I received a Merkur Progress from Amazon, and the blade will not align with the safety bar. I have the top cap notch aligned correctly with the triangle marker on the base. After loading a blade and looking at the razor in an overhead view, the blade aligns correctly with the top cap. However the blade is way off in relation to the safety bar. One end of the blade is much, much closer to the safety bar than the other end of the blade (on the same side of the blade). Indeed, at one end the blade is almost touching the safety bar. The same is true for the other side of the blade. I have it packed and ready to return to Amazon or I would post a photo.

I have had a Progress in the past from the older molds, and this new one looks much cheaper. I am very disappointed as I wanted to compare the Progress to the Parker Variant. I love the Variant and it has absolutely no issues. But I generally prefer short handled razors so I had decided to give the Progress another try. Because it looks a little cheap now, I am returning it for a refund.

Has anyone else noticed any problems with blade alignment on the Progress?

I got mine 5 or 6 years ago and haven't had any issues. Not sure if there are any trends forming with newer models.

A side note. You can have your handle on your Parker Variant cut shorter at North Shore Razor. I had mine done and had it gun coated to. It looked great.

Thanks. Do you remember the costs to shorten the Variant handle?

Honestly it's been so long I can't remember and I had another razor gun coated at the same time so I really don't remember but I know the prices are very fair. Just message him. Scotts a good guy.
